The first DVD that I tested this machine with was a PAL, Region 2 disc from Sweden. It played. Next, a NTSC, Region 4 from Brazil, a NTSC Region 2 from Japan, a NTSC, Region 3 from Korea, Region 1 from the U.S.A., then a music CD. They ALL played instantly!

This Toshiba region free DVD player was everything I needed to play DVD's from other countries. The company who ships these, sent it PERFECT! After opening the box, it sets up exactly as you have your regular DVD player set up. You don't have to read any directions, it sets up just like a regular DVD player and that's it! It plays on any television set, which is great, as ours is an older set. In a matter of minutes we were watching our music DVD's from other countries. I have to give this 5 stars for FAST shipping, PERFECTLY boxed, EASY SET UP, GREAT PRICE and PLAYS FANTASTIC!

I've had this player for about a month and a half and so far it's been great. It does what it needs to do. Plays our Swedish DVDs no problem. The only quirk I found was that the Automatic DVD type selection didn't work. From the setup menu I had to specify what type (NTSC/PAL) and then it worked fine. Small complaint really. Oh, it also plays my music CDs. Nice.

Take care, any Toshiba DVD player that plays all regions will not be replaced by Toshiba even if it goes wrong within a year. Toshiba will not handle any machines other than Region 1 and will tell you to contact the supplier for a replacement.

This was everything that i wanted. Easy to use, easy to set up and no punching in a code to switch it to a specific region. I looked at other players that you have to search the web to find the code to switch the region or to switch it to Region 0. This player came set up already, I just had to pop in the disc and it had no problem playing region 1 first and then a region two. It's very sleek and modern and fit nicely on top of my little tv. The only complaint i might have with it, is that it's a bit noisy when it is loading the dvd. It came with a nice little remote which has a eject button. Over all a get little player to play all region dvds.

The performance of Toshiba SD-555SA is superb!It played all my foreign dvds from different countries as well as regular american ones. Easy setup. Highly recommended.

I now can watch movies from all over the world, specially french movies. The product is light, easy to install. Seller has been very helpfull, when Fed Ex messed up with the delivery. I will again buy from this vendor for sure.

This is a great machine, that does what it says on the tin. However, we have a very old tv, so we have to run this through the VCR. Not, I suppose the worst thing, but it would be better if the co-axials matched up directly between the dvd player and the tv. (Which they don't)

Despite these concerns, I am delighted that I can view my British collection while here in the US at a good price, and very good quality picture- despite the old tv! I am buying a second one for my mother on the basis of being happy with the one I have.

This player does everything it was advertised to do - have not had a single glitch with it. I am very happy with its performance.

Disappointingly, this DVD player stopped working after 14 months.

In fact, this was the first of two multi-region DVD players (different brands) from VCT, that I ordered (at different times) that stopped working before they should have.

Is it that the DVD players were just too cheap to last?

Is it VCT's region-free moding that causes the problem?
