5.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly nice budget laptop
After several months of ownership, I can confidently say this is a best-bang-for-the-buck laptop for most users. It's been very stable on both Vista 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit, runs strong (esp after adding an additional 2GB RAM, but ran well with the stock 2GB) and stays cool. I'm a web developer and it runs IIS, MySQL, SQL Server, Visual Studio, Adobe Creative Suite...

1.0 out of 5 stars nothing but trouble
We have had nothing but problems with this. Hard drive errors, can't find the operating system errors, keypad failing.
Spent hours on phone with tech support.
Finally had us ship it back to be repair only to be told there was "liquid spillage and it will not be covered under warranty"-and they can repair it for $325.00!-I only paid $399.00 for it.They said it...

I'm a web developer and it runs IIS, MySQL, SQL Server, Visual Studio, Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office '07 without straining at all.

The screen is bright and clear and although it shares resources for video, it pushes my 22" monitor (using it as the primary in a dual-screen setup) to 1680x1050 without any problem. The keyboard has full-sized keys, a good layout and a very good 'feel'.

The battery life is also very good for a full-sized laptop - in the 2 hr range with heavy use.

While I would have liked eSATA, HDMI and a built-in espresso machine I have to remind myself it's a budget machine and I paid less than $400 for it :)

The only drawbacks I've been able to find with this machine:

1) You have to create your own backup disks, but that's true of any laptop nowadays - I mention it only because it's a pet peeve.

2) The touchpad isn't recessed - it's a textured square that's integrated flush with the rest of the case. I don't even notice it now, but it does take a day or two to get used to.

To sum it up, I'd recommend this laptop to anyone for everyday use.

Nothing was spilled on it-unless I was sold a returned item that they resold as new??
I will never buy Toshiba again.
Did not purchase from Amazon.
