I found "Touch: Pressing Against the Wounds of a Broken World" to be a fun and easy read, well rooted in scripture.

Rudy pulls from his experience and the wise words of others from accross the theological spectrum quoting liberally from church leaders as diverse as John Piper and John Wesley.

Touch tells 3 primary stories:
1. Rudy's Journey from "the chief of sinners" to a prominent Houston pastor.
2. A Portrait of St. John's (His Church) from very humble beginnings to now.
3. Rudy's understanding of Christian ministry and witness.

All are worth telling and are told well. You'll enjoy all three.

The overarching theme of "Touch" is helping unloved, skeptical people meet Jesus through His church. This sentiment is presented well in this quote from page 203:

"The church is God with skin on. It's how He has chosen to accomplish His purpose to touch every person with His love. The great preacher D.L. Moody accurately observed, "Out of one hundred men, one will read the Bible; the other ninety-nine will read the Christian." People are looking for authenticity. Let's not let them down."

In it he challenges church leaders to be authentic and vulnerable. That's definitely something I've struggled with. I more often fall into the "safe" camp of privacy and self preservation than the leader he describes. It's a delicate balance that this text has caused me to consider further.

Apart from minor quibbles over ways of presenting the Bible I found this book to be both convicting and inspiring. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Not the typical book is an understatement - this book compels you to take action anywhere you see the undeserved - so in any community in the United States! This book also explains what it means to touch a life and how to keep that process moving forward. It encourages you to take a chance and live life a little more, reach out and touch those who need a friend and touch those who don't appear to be touchable. This book teaches the meaning of compassionate service. Compassionate service can mean making a phone call to someone you have been upset with for years and forgiving them or walking around the corner and buying a homeless person a hot cup of coffee on a cold day. As this book proves, it only takes one person to make a change.

Pastor Rudy speaks straight from the heart out of his real life... He takes us to a deep place where God can reach into the recesses of our daily living and provide us with a way of hope and transformation. His simple faith gives courage to all who wonder how God could help in our particular circumstances! A great book to give to people who did not grow up around religion!

Pastor Rudy's transparency is so refreshing! What an amazing story of transformation. How inspiring to see a ministry devoted to `the least of those' among us. This book will prick your heart and compel you to want to TOUCH those around you!

The opening lines of the book "...never trust preachers and church folks" stop you head on and make you think about where you stand. Are you the untrusted preacher or church person, the critical unchurched, or the hopeless unsaved. Once you turn the pages, you will know where you stand, but also hear the story of a man that Christ transformed through love. TOUCH is an outstanding book that will offer you the opportunity to be transformed by Christ love so that you can TOUCH the world.

Definitely a book for the unchurched, unsaved, and churchdom. This book shows you a life and ministry of a man that critiqued the institution of churchdom. It shows the transformation process when Christ entered his life. It shows you grace with skin on, but most importantly this book shows God's unconditional love for us, and how to show others God's unconditional love. For the unchurched, you get the opportunity to have hope again, believe again, and love again. For the unsaved, you get to see authenticity and experience love probably like you have never experienced it before. For the churched, you will be re-exposed to the very reason why you decided to follow Christ, HIS unconditional love and acceptance of you.

This book revitalized my purpose as an advocate for the poor, motivator of the broken hearted, and liberator of those in bondage and captivity.

TOUCH is real. Enjoy and touch the world.

This book will Transforms lives, a Church, a Community, and the World!
By reading this book you will see what we are really "called" to do. Pastor Rudy keeps it real. This is not the typical preacher book; he is intentionally different to make a real lasting impact on the world. He shows you how to really help the hurting, touch the homeless and really be about Kingdom business. Excellent!

Pastor Rudy is a great example of how Jesus would want us to minister to a hurt and suffering world. He's very authentic, very compassionate. His deep commitment and love really shines through. He shows us how we can really make a difference in the lives of others. I Highly recommend this book, particularly for those with a heart for serving God's people.
