Add some opensource firmware to this guy and you suddenly have a wireless monitor slash controller for your canon DSLR. You can find the free firmware over a dslrfilmnoob dot com. Battery life is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours and distance for camera control in my testing is around 35 to 40 feet line of site. Well worth the $30 for canon dslr owners.

I really like this device the setup page is good. The only thing is that it is not compatible with many 3G USB modems. I tried 2 different ones from Verizon and neither worked. Tech support is great fast email response on issues.
I travel all over the world and needed a device that I can connect all of my WiFi gear without having to buy more than one internet connection at the hotel. It works flawlessly. I also like that I can connect an Ethernet cable so when I hold seminars I can have the whole group connected.
The battery is great, I can use it to charge my phone if needed.
I give it 5 stars even though I can't use my 3G USB modem.

I was trying to avoid purchasing the expensive WT-5A ($599) that Nikon suggests using to control/view a Nikon D4 camera. I came across this and rolled the dice. After several hours I finally got it to work with my Nikon D4. Just make sure the router is in AP mode (there are 4 modes). It took me a while to set this up because A. I'm not an expert on wireless and B. Neither TP nor Nikon had any knowledge or using this in conjunction with my camera, so I was on my own. TP is sitting on a gold mine and doesn't even know it - they should be marketing this to the D4 crowd.

I sometimes need to program a circuit board in the field that has an ethernet jack on it. Before I'd have to have my laptop close to it so I could connect it to the circuit board.

Now I just connect this guy to the circuit board and my laptop can communicate to the board wirelessly. Using it as a wireless bridge and it having batteries is very convenient. Works perfectly.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Noticed I didn't write mini-router, because in spite of its small size it performs as well as a regular size router, but it has many more capabilities. Some of the most important ones are the following: It's portable, and it comes with a Lithium 2000mAh chargeable battery, it supports 3G Router Mode, WISP Client Router Mode, Wireless Router Mode, Access Point, Repeater, Bridge with Access Point and Client. It includes a 10/100 RJ45 Ethernet port, and one micro USB port, and it's compatible with iPad, iTouch, Android Phone, Kindle and the majority portable WiFi devices.

It also comes with a complete command control panel or web management page that can be access with any browser by typing [...] in the address bar. It can be easy to setup by choosing Quick Setup or if one needs it, it can be set in a custom detailed way using many security features like parental control or WEP, WPA/WPA2, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK authentication, and TKIP/AES encryption security. I uploaded a screen shot of the web management page where the many options are displayed.

My favorite mode is the WISP Client Router Mode because in this mode, the TL-MR3040 is wirelessly connected to the WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) or Access Point and it can share the internet to multiple users. In this instance the TL-MR3040 acts as a wireless adapter, catching the wireless WiFi signal from any Access Point and sharing it. It's my preferred method of using the TL-MR3040, mainly due to the fact that I can plug the TL-MR3040 into the Ethernet port of a laptop or a netbook, leaving the USB ports free to use with other devices while reaching the maximum speed, which in this case is up to 150Mbps - one that excels what the integrated wireless adapter in the device can provide.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
It's light, it's portable, it's battery-powered, and it's highly mobile. So what's not to like about this well designed compact little 3G/3.75G wireless router? That depends on you and how you plan to use it.

The TP-LINK TL-MR3040 3G/3.75G Wireless N150 Portable Router is one of a number of products bearing the N150 designation, and along with having its own internal battery, it offers the ability to share a 3G/4G mobile connection, wherever 3G/4G coverage is available. It can also serve as a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) client router, which allows connection to designated 'hot spots' using a wireless connection.

This is a well-designed and solid little device, and it's easy to set up if you follow the directions, which are thorough yet easy to follow. Following the PC directions (and the ones for the Mac are similar), I noted the default SSID and default password that were noted on the N150, then plugged the Ethernet cable into my network port. The N150 was plugged into the power outlet in the wall, then looked for the network name on my computer and entered the password. It was that simple: I had network access.

This wireless portable router is true plug-and-play in the AP (access point) mode, and that's probably just where I'll leave it for general use. Checked it later with my MacBook Pro, my Kindle Fire HD and even with my Samsung Galaxy S III, and all worked just fine.
