Miniature Design, Ultra-compact

With its new ultra-compact housing design, TP-LINK's TL-PA2010 is considerably smaller than TP-LINK’s legacy mini 200Mbps Powerline products. Made out of an elegant white shell that’s just 1.1 inches thick, it nearly blends into any power outlet.

Up to 200Mbps, 1000 Feet

With advanced HomePlug AV technology, TL-PA2010KIT provide users with stable, high-speed data transfer rates of up to 200Mbps on a line length of up to 1000 feet. Together, with its built-in powerful AES encryption, the TL-PA2010KIT is a great choice for an entire home solution to connect all network compatible devices – from computers and game consoles to printers, NAS hard drives, and set-top boxes for IPTVs.

Easy to use – Plug and play

Plug and Play, no new wires or configuration required:

  1. Plug the adapter into the power outlet
  2. Connect the device via the network cable to the adapter
  3. Press the encryption buttons - and you're done!
Reduces Power Consumption Up to 75%

The TL-PA2010KIT employs a sophisticated Power-Saving Mode that consumes significantly less power when compared to your average Powerline Adapter. When there’s no reception or data transmission over a certain period of time, the TL-PA2010KIT will automatically switch from "Working" Mode to "Power-Saving" Mode. This will reduce its energy consumption by up to 75 percent.

Pair Button for Easy Network Security

Simply by pushing the Pair button on the adapters, users can set up a hassle-free Powerline network within minutes, complete with 128-bit AES encryption for network security and data protection.

When I first tried this adapter, I was dissapointed, as it only managed to get speeds of 10 megabits per second and 6 megabits per second. I had read somewhere else that in order for these to work well, they have to be on the same "legs" of the circuit breaker. What that really amounts to is that in order for it to work well, the rooms you have it set up on have to be on the same side of the circuit breaker. Now that I have it located on the same leg, it blew my expectations away. I'm getting internet speeds of 50 megabits per second, which is FASTER than being wired directly to our second router.

So, in summary: if you plan to buy this, look at your circuit breaker first. If the rooms you want to connect are located on the same side of the breaker (vertically aligned) you can expect great performance. If they are not, it still might be fast enough if your internet is rather slow.

Other relevant things: I had a hard time setting a custom password for the pair. In the end I just gave up because I read somewhere that each adapter has a unique password, and hitting the buttons sorts this out.

Speeds are very consistent and reliable. Not noticeable increase in ping, maybe a little ~5ms when on the wrong circuits.

-EDIT
After having tried different positions with the near adapter, it seems that it doesn't matter which part of the breaker the adapter is on at all. What must have happened is that I initially put the adapter onto an outlet that had it's protective circuit tripped, greatly degrading the signal.

I am writing this over my new network with the TP-Link Powerline Adapter Starter Kit! It is packaged with two powerline adapters, and the setup is very simple. I plugged one powerline adapter into a wall socket and connected an ethernet port from my router to the powerline adapter. Then I connected the second powerline adapter to another wall socket and connected the ethernet to my desktop from the second powerline adapter.

I was previously using a shoddy wireless adapter for my desktop and was getting 2Mbps from speedtest.net. Now I am getting about 22Mbps download speed and 7Mbps upload speed -- about a 9900% increase! Perfect!! I am happy and no longer get annoying disconnects. I can watch videos and do gaming with a consistent connection.

I purchased the 200Mbps version. Unless your ISP sends out more than 200Mbps speed to your connection, most people will do fine with the 200Mbps version. I have Comcast and we get about 25Mbps download speed, so I would get the same speed form the powerline adapter with the 500 Mbps version. Most people don't know this, but your connection speed will only be as fast as your ISP provides!! This rule applies to wireless routers too.

I opened my box and followed the ultra-simple instructions: (1) plug one into the router and then into the wall and (2) plug the other into the (remote) computer and then into the wall. Nothing... Re-read the instructions and realized that the two devices are more likely to 'pair' if they are initially plugged into outlets close to each other. Repeated the above with the two in outlets a few feet away from each other. Then unplugged the client-side adapter and moved it back to its original position. At that point, things worked fine... for a while. Then the pairing between the two adapters seemed to be lost... and lost again... etc. Reading through the reviews, I noticed that others had experienced similar problems. I figured that perhaps it was simply a 'bad adapter' or something along those lines. I was mentally preparing to return the things when I walked by a touch-sensitive lamp on the same circuit as one of the adapters and noticed it was on -- strange... I didn't remember leaving it on. Put that incident out of my mind and tried yet another round of unplugging the adapters and plugging them back in to try and get things up and running again. Walked by the same lamp a bit later and noticed it was on -- again -- this time I knew I hadn't turned it on... The mental light-bulb went on and I tried unplugging both touch-sensitive lamps on that circuit. Voila -- the adapters seem to work like a charm now. Take-home message: it may not be defective -- you just may have other items plugged in to a circuit that are interfering with the function of one or both of the adapters. Before you return them, unplug your touch-sensitive lamps (I'm wondering what other 'gotchas' are out there that TP-LINK doesn't make you aware of...) and try again... you may find that the adapters work after all...

Works better in our house than we expected after reading the negative reviews. I plugged the first one in next to the router in an upstairs study on one side of the house and the second one next to the HTPC in the family room downstairs on the other side of the house, and voila! We'd been using Wi-fi to feed the HTPC / tv combo in the family room and were often unhappy with the only "fair" connection and the unreliable download speed (usually 4-6 Mb/s, sometimes just 1-2 Mb/s, though) that all too often slowed down enough so Netflix movies would drop out of HD mode or even begin to stumble and freeze. Now, with the TP-Link, we get consistent download speeds around 18-22 Mb/s -- although our upstairs and downstairs outlets are connected to two separate 200 Amp fuse boxes. (Both under the same meter, though -- that seems to be the decisive point.)
