Product Description

Dual External Antennas Provide Strong Signal Strength

The adapter has dual external 3 dBi omni-directional antennas that deliver stronger signal penetration strength and wider wireless coverage than its standard counterparts. The antennas can be adjusted 180 degrees to get the best signal reception. When not in use, the antennas can be folded for convenient storage and mobility.

300Mbps Wireless N Speed

The TL-WN822N complies with wireless 802.11 b/g/n standards and transmits data at up to 300Mbps. It adopts the Mutiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) technologies to provide better wireless performance and stability than previous generations. The adapter supports WEP, WPA/WPA2, and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryptions.

Easy Setup

If your computer's operating system doesn't install the driver of the TL-WN822N automatically after plug-in, you just need to install the driver from the bundled CD or from TP-LINK's website. After the driver is installed, you can use the built-in wireless utility in your operating system to connect to a wireless network. If you want to use advanced features of the adapter such as Soft AP, you can install the TP-LINK utility to access those functions.

Create a Hotspot with the SoftAP Feature

Whenever there is only wired Internet connection, you can activate the SoftAP function of the TL-WN822N after installing the bundled utility software, and create a Wi-Fi hotspot for mobile devices. This feature is useful when travelling to places where there is only one cable for Internet and mutiple people have to use the Internet.

I am a soldier in Afghanistan where I live in a tent. The nearest internet hotspot is about 120 meters away behind a 1 foot thick concrete blast wall. Before I purchased this relatively inexpensive 'high-gain' antenna I had to leave my tent and walk outdoors towards a signal to connect to the internet.
Now, not only am I able to connect, but I have twice as many choices of networks to connect to. This little gadget is awesome! The upload and download speeds are good enough for SKYPE. It is one of the best devices I've purchased since I've been here.

Bought this to hook up a new desktop system to our historical society's wifi network.

Step 1: Plug into computer using supplied USB cable
Step 2: Install driver from included CD
Step 3: Connect and enter password (one-time)

Took all of 2-3 minutes! Windows reported excellent connection and I didn't even have to extend the antennas.

Our network is currently Wireless G - but this connected with no problem. Router is in another room about 40 feet away.

Used to download and install several hundreds of MB's of OS & application updates, anti-virus, and firewall software. Connection remained solid entire time.

The antennae are subtle but important. 20 feet away from my router, my speed was 6 mbps download 3 mbps upload. Then I put the antennae up, and my speed more than doubled to 17/6.

I am very impressed with this adapter.
I've never tried to use wifi with any of my desktops, but after moving one of my systems to a room that wasn't pre-wired with RJ-45 ports, I began looking for a wifi adapter.

My initial instinct was an internal PCI adapter, but I stumbled across this one which turned out to be great luck! It's a lot cheaper than many PCI options too!

The two antennas pick up signals incredibly well. When testing it with my laptop, I get 5 bars wherever I go in the house... even outside.

Additionally, the capability to position the adapter wherever you like is a huge plus. I'm sure it helps to improve reception and avoid clutter.

If you need a dependable N-speed WiFi adapter, look no further. I highly recommend this product!

Update 5/22/2014
I still use this adapter, and it has been performing great. I've also taken it traveling abroad to catch some free WiFi hotspots, and it almost always has better reception than the built-in antennas in my mobile devices. It's light and compact which makes it a good travel companion.

The title says it all folks. This thing is lighting fast. The best $20 I've spend in a long time.

====PLEASE NOTE====
1.) Make sure you install the software.
2.) Connect to the internet only through the software included.
3.) Turn off power save mode in the advanced tab (this causes it to constantly disconnect.)
4.) Now you have super fast wireless internet.

Anyone with a Mac should not order this - it definitely does not work with any Mac: the Amazon listing is incorrect. There are no drivers available for any Mac OS.

If you have a Mac with OS 10.4 - 10.6, I suggest you consider the Alfa AWUS036H.

I bought this thinking it would work with linux. Unfortunately the newest version of this device, version 3.0, isn't working right in ubuntu 13.04, 12.04 or 10.10. It will detect the network but if you try to connect it will just give an authorization error over and over. I found several troubleshooting steps for older the versions 1.0 and 2.0 of this device but since they use different chipsets I didn't think it would work, tried it any way though, no luck. I did find a couple of other users that had the version 3.0 and had the same problem. One seemed to get it working but even after trying to the same steps they did, I still couldn't get it to connect. It does work fine in Windows 7 and works exactly as described, picked up my wifi perfectly, gave me a much better more stable connection over my normal wireless usb dongles. I think its more of a bug in linux though, ther eare many bug reports about the realtek driver its using so maybe it will be fixed soon, who knows, but if you want to use this in linux, be warned.

This is my second purchase of this item and I highly recommend the TP-Link Wireless N TL-WN22N. I replaced two wireless PCI N cards and the difference is like night and day. I think the problem with PCI cards is that they are located behind a computer which may be behind a desk or other furniture and I think that may be responsible for their poor performance. Since this device is tethered to a USB wire and it can be put in a more clear path to the signal the difference is significant. The price is in the same ballpark as most PCI cards so if you don't mind this small device in view it is a winning proposition. My two network locations went from -49dBm and -60 dBm to -31dBM and -38dBM with this device. I have bought four TP-Link devices and they are a big surprise. Before that I had never heard of this brand. My only wish is that TP-Link would start making their products in black to match all my other components.
