Product Description

Dual External Antennas Provide Strong Signal Strength

The adapter has dual external 3 dBi omni-directional antennas that deliver stronger signal penetration strength and wider wireless coverage than its standard counterparts. The antennas can be adjusted 180 degrees to get the best signal reception. When not in use, the antennas can be folded for convenient storage and mobility.

300Mbps Wireless N Speed

The TL-WN822N complies with wireless 802.11 b/g/n standards and transmits data at up to 300Mbps. It adopts the Mutiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) technologies to provide better wireless performance and stability than previous generations. The adapter supports WEP, WPA/WPA2, and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryptions.

Easy Setup

If your computer's operating system doesn't install the driver of the TL-WN822N automatically after plug-in, you just need to install the driver from the bundled CD or from TP-LINK's website. After the driver is installed, you can use the built-in wireless utility in your operating system to connect to a wireless network. If you want to use advanced features of the adapter such as Soft AP, you can install the TP-LINK utility to access those functions.

Create a Hotspot with the SoftAP Feature

Whenever there is only wired Internet connection, you can activate the SoftAP function of the TL-WN822N after installing the bundled utility software, and create a Wi-Fi hotspot for mobile devices. This feature is useful when travelling to places where there is only one cable for Internet and mutiple people have to use the Internet.

I am a soldier in Afghanistan where I live in a tent. The nearest internet hotspot is about 120 meters away behind a 1 foot thick concrete blast wall. Before I purchased this relatively inexpensive 'high-gain' antenna I had to leave my tent and walk outdoors towards a signal to connect to the internet.
Now, not only am I able to connect, but I have twice as many choices of networks to connect to. This little gadget is awesome! The upload and download speeds are good enough for SKYPE. It is one of the best devices I've purchased since I've been here.

Bought this to hook up a new desktop system to our historical society's wifi network.

Step 1: Plug into computer using supplied USB cable
Step 2: Install driver from included CD
Step 3: Connect and enter password (one-time)

Took all of 2-3 minutes! Windows reported excellent connection and I didn't even have to extend the antennas.

Our network is currently Wireless G - but this connected with no problem. Router is in another room about 40 feet away.

Used to download and install several hundreds of MB's of OS & application updates, anti-virus, and firewall software. Connection remained solid entire time.

I am very impressed with this adapter.
I've never tried to use wifi with any of my desktops, but after moving one of my systems to a room that wasn't pre-wired with RJ-45 ports, I began looking for a wifi adapter.

My initial instinct was an internal PCI adapter, but I stumbled across this one which turned out to be great luck! It's a lot cheaper than many PCI options too!

The two antennas pick up signals incredibly well. When testing it with my laptop, I get 5 bars wherever I go in the house... even outside.

Additionally, the capability to position the adapter wherever you like is a huge plus. I'm sure it helps to improve reception and avoid clutter.

If you need a dependable N-speed WiFi adapter, look no further. I highly recommend this product!

Update 5/22/2014
I still use this adapter, and it has been performing great. I've also taken it traveling abroad to catch some free WiFi hotspots, and it almost always has better reception than the built-in antennas in my mobile devices. It's light and compact which makes it a good travel companion.

The antennae are subtle but important. 20 feet away from my router, my speed was 6 mbps download 3 mbps upload. Then I put the antennae up, and my speed more than doubled to 17/6.

The hardware is small and very effective. I've tested ti against other wireless devices and it performed very well. The problem is one of software. While using this device occasionally it will forget what network it is communicating with. This is NOT a network problem -- I have 4 computers on the same wireless network. Computers are running Windows 7 or Windows XP, with all updates installed. The problem is rare, but has persisted for around a year. Once a month or so it will simply forget what it is doing and suddenly be unable to find the original network.

Logging on and off the computer will fix it, but requires saving work and in the process of crashing it may destroy whatever you are working on.

As another symptom, when the software is freaking out and disconnecting you, it may deselect whatever program you are working in. I understand that disconnects happen, but they should be limited to times when:
1. A tornado rips through your house and detaches the device from the USB slot
2. A bear comes in through a door or window and eats the device because you left a hot dog on top of it.
3. A toddler presses the power button

Otherwise, the software should work. Unfortunately, I can not rate the product higher than one star because of the software.

I spent a lot of time researching wireless adapters before purchasing this one and I felt pretty comfortable with my purchase based on the reviews as well as the price. The adapter worked fine for me until today when I found I had no Internet access and discovered the adapter had died. I am just far enough outside of the 30 days from purchase that I don't qualify for a full refund, but it does appear that I do qualify for a partial refund according to Amazon. I am taking my chances and ordering another TP-Link branded adapter (different model) based on the good reviews and price. I sure hope I don't get burned again by buying a TP-Link adapter.

I am an Amazon Prime member and purchase here several times a week. I am very please with Amazon's customer service and that's why I keep coming back. I can't say I recommend this adapter, but maybe I just received a dud.

Purchased 2 of these to use with 2 Windows 7 (64 bit) computers. We currently have 9 wireless N devices (not including these adapters) that connect to a Netgear WNDR3700 router with no issues. Most of the time, both TL-WN822N adapters refuse to connect to wireless N and fall back to wireless G. If I set the router to N-only, neither will connect, I just get the prompt over and over again to enter my security key. Even wireless G performance is a bit flakey, and often the speed and latency to the router was worse than the internet connection itself. To top it off, the driver and utility software is about as bad as it gets. The config tool pops up on every restart even when checking the "Don't show it again" box. The utility tool freezes constantly and the UI is terrible which is especially frustrating since you'll be spending a lot of time in it to figure out why it's not working properly. If you have a full screen app open, the utility that runs in the background will frequently take focus away from the foreground app. You'll have no idea the TP-Link config utlility is doing causing this, because it won't show any visual indication that it requested focus so you're staring at your windows desktop with your full screen app in the taskbar. Reinstalling the software and drivers doesn't help much since you never quite get the feeling the uninstaller removed everything properly and once you get everything reinstalled properly again, you are just back where you started. Often while troubleshooting, windows refused to recognize the adapter at all until a reboot. Ultimately I have decided to just deal with ethernet cables across the floor until I can find something better.
