I know it is difficult to find cards that work well with linux. This card is inexpensive and worked without a hitch on my Ubuntu installation. (Including 802.11n) It uses the Atheros9k driver and worked with HostAP. Great cheap option for building an access point.

I was hitting my head up against the wall trying to get my wireless card to work. Throwing my old card (rt61pci based) in the trash and buying this one was the best thing I ever did. It connected instantly the very first time. Life is too short to waste on iwconfig.

I recently purchased this product for my new PC that did not have built in WIFI. I normally go with brands like D-link or Net Gear but based on the other reviews and the price I decided to go with this card.

Pro's
1. Excellent range, better than my older D-link and my laptops built in WIFI
2. Does not take up a ton of space on the motherboard
3. Clean solder, built solid
4. Great price

Con's
1. 3 antenna's (only con is space outside of PC)
2. antenna placement makes it hard to screw the antenna on depending on case design (too close together)

Was using a wired Ethernet adapter operating at 54Mbps. Wanted wireless-N speeds and convenience of wireless. Bought this adapter based upon feedback of others. It is a good product because I installed it and it simply works. New speed based upon my hardware configuration went to 135 Mbps as it ranges up to 300Mbps. So tripled the speed for less than $40. The only challenge was getting the latest driver downloaded and installed. The driver that came with the board had conflicts with my hardware because it was so old a driver (if I recall a 2008 version). I downloaded the 2010 version of the software driver after installation of the board and it runs really well with no hiccups for about a month since we've had it. My wife is pleased because she simply turns on the computer and uses it at a much faster speed. A good buy. Bought through Amazon also makes the delivery process simple and reliable.

I purchased this product in April, and after 4 months of use, I would recommend that you stay away from this product for the following reasons:

1) I have 2 bars of signal on my desktop, even though the router is 1 room away, less than 10 feet. On my laptop which is located right next to my desktop, I have maximum signal.
2) This card will "overload" and reset any network connection that you may have, so if you do a lot of streaming, Youtube, Hulu, online gaming (Starcraft 2, HON, Diablo 3, etc, you will get disconnected under heavy use
3) SLOWWWWWWWW connection speed. I have Verizon Fios 150mb down 50 mb up, and I feel like I am on DSL on my desktop, while the laptop that is located right next to my desktop is blazing through all the websites/streaming.
3a) I attempted to reinstall drivers, contact the manufacturer but to no avail, so it's not a driver issue. I also tried every single possible orientation for the antenna's but to no avail.

Remove the computer router hassle and clutter. I have a T-Mobile Wireless Hotspot and this works great to connect the home computer to it. When you tether the Hotspot with a USB cord you loose speed, with this, you don't. It's easy to install. Take off tower case cover, and plug it into a PCI slot. If you only have one PCI slot (it won't work with PCI Express) then you'll need to remove whatever is plugged into it--probably a modem card. The mini-CD had the Windows 7 driver which had to be installed, too. It walks you through the install, and was easy to do. Hope this works as well for you, too.

From the other reviews, you should gather that the card works well under Windows. However, my biggest gripe is that you cannot use this card for Wake on Wireless LAN (WoWLAN). I couldn't configure it to accept magic packets. So much for remotely waking the computer to VNC through SSH and such. If your experience is otherwise, please let me know in the comments. Other than that, I'm having no problems being on a different floor and room of my house to the router.

I spent three days trying to get this card to work well under Linux. The problem was that the card would cease wireless activity for two whole seconds every thirty seconds. The "lspci" command says that this card is an Atheros AR5416 [AR5008], and that the ath9k driver is loaded for it. According to bug reports, Users with this card experience the 2 seconds of inactivity every 30 seconds. The solution is to disable ANI, which stands for Adaptive Noise Immunity. The purpose of ANI is to improve performance when there is heavy wireless interference. Search the internet for "AR5416 disable ani" for more information on this issue.

Now, in order to disable ANI, you'll have to either recompile your kernel to allow debugging for the ath9k drivers (search the internet for "ath9k debug"), or obtain the latest compat-drivers and edit the config.mk file in the source before compilation. Add the lines, "export CONFIG_CFG80211_DEBUGFS=y", "export CONFIG_MAC80211_DEBUGFS=y", "export CONFIG_ATH_DEBUG=y", "export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUG=y", "export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUGFS=y" to config.mk.

Then, as root, "echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy0/ath9k/disable_ani", and the problem disappears. To have this persistent between boots, create a boot script that contains this command.
