This little demolition hammer is a real workhorse. It is heavy for its size, but that just equals more punch, and that extra weight really helped to focus the hammer's blows. My driveway is certainly no match for this little wonder, in fact, my driveway is smashed to bits--just what I wanted.
After a few hours of using this hammer, after I'd determined the best way to break-up my driveway(grapefruit sized chunks), I was half way through the section I'd started on and the hammer looked new and wasn't even hot from heavy use. If you want a reason for not buying this hammer I guess you could gripe about the steel carrying case it comes in, maybe that could be thicker. And one small issue I'll try to resolve--the thing came with only a tiny slip of paper illustrating how to change bits, that's all that came with--no waranty, no instructions, no papers, just the little slip of paper for the bits. Which will be enough if nothing ever happens to this tool. In my case, I've already gotten my money out of the hammer. But if/when it goes south, I'd like to be able to fix it...it's Chinese but is also very solid, a steel body like an old Craftsman and the torque inside to really do the job. I love this tool--so will you!

Digging out an area of about 20X40 under a barn for storage, and started about 10 years ago with pick and shovel, found the area to be a mix of clay and limestone, like in slabs up to 12 inches thick layered between clay. Looked into renting a contractor grade electric unit for about $85 per weekend. But while surfing the net one night I found this little unit. After reading the reviews on it, I decided to give it a try. Like they all said, the carry case was damaged (dented) and with mine, there was no oil container, and what oil that may have been in the unit appeared to have leaked out (making a mess of the Styrofoam packing). I hammered the case back into shape and filled the oil reservoir with motor oil, as specified by the manual (which is nice to have especially with the part numbers for replacement although I don't know where you would go to get the parts) and noted an initial leak on the shaft seal. This was corrected by running the machine for about 30 seconds (dry seal). Took the machine to meet it's new challenge thinking if it makes it half way through the project, I'll be impressed. It might break cement easily, but we're dealing with Limestone. Well, I have to admit... it works very well on everything up to the boulders we found at the lowest level. If you have the time it will break even the biggest rock, but it goes quicker if you give a little assist with a sledge first to make stress cracks. The bit will then find the easiest path to break up the rock. The spade bit works great on the clay also. In closing, I would recommend this unit. It may be a 'shoulder unit', when it breaks pitch it over your shoulder, I don't know because it hasn't borken yet and we've done some serious work with it, but everyone who has used it is impressed. We're 3/4 done so it only has to last for the last 1/4 of the project, but it seems this puppy may go well beyond that.

I'm only basing my high rating today on the arrival of my demolition hammer. After my order was placed I received a confirmation email of the order being placed and the following day I received a confirmation email that the order has been picked up with a FedEx tracking number and as estimated the hammer arrived on time.
Based on other reviews in regards to the carrying case being damaged during shipping, I was happy to see that not only was the box undamaged, but once opened that the case was also undamaged during the shipping, so two thumbs up there! The case itself is poor quality, thin and I would tell anyone to "watch your toes" because this tool is heavy, I actually had to help the FedEx lady get it out of her truck. Anyway, the handle on the case is cheap and has small rivots holding it on so I would think after sometime that handle is going to give way so not only watch your toes, but be prepared so you don't break the hammer if it does give out and falls to the ground. Upon opening the case, everything was intact. The bits are heavy and seem to be heavy duty. The spade shovel bit is a monster and I'm sure will have no problems going througfh hard clay. I'm in a sand area, but I ordered it anyway just so I have it in case I ever need it. The cord appears to be cheap, so I will replace that as recommended by another person that posted on here. I will also remove each bolt and thread lock them prior to using also recommended. I did notice that the oil level is low in the machine, so I will top that off prior to using. There was no oil in the case, so I don't think it was a leak issue. Its raining today and expected to rain the whole weekend here in Michigan, so once I can get out and actually use the hammer, I'll be back with a follow up review on the operation, maybe even a video review if I have the time.....so far I'm happy and impressed with the actual weight of machine and the shipping, so I hope this review helps someone in purchasing this demolition hammer. P.S. Happy Birthday Dad

Here is an e mail message I wrote to the company who sent me the tool: " The demolition hammer I purchased from you on April 17 has been a great tool for a month now, as I am removing parts of a stone foundation, busting concrete, and digging out very hard compacted dirt. It quit on me yesterday and I am assuming the brushes are worn. If you would have replacement ones for the model I ordered, I would appreciate hearing from you on getting replacements.".......... I will wait to see if the company responds and the brushes are the problem. It has been a workhorse for me and I am pleased with its strength. The manual mentioned to keep check on tightening bolts, screws, and oil level, which I did, and it was needed because of heavy use. The manual also mentioned wear levels on the brushes in the motor and a safety shutoff brush. I was able to take the brushes out and did notice significant wear, so I am assuming what has happened is the motor's brushes have worn out. They seem easy to replace if the proper part is available. I have probably used it between 3-4 hours a day, removed 8-10 tons of dirt and rock.

I am 81 and was concerned with weight. For those with similar interests, I weighed everything with the following results: Unit: 28 lbs, Spade: 8 lbs, Pointed tool: 3.6 lbs, Blunt tool: 3.8 lbs.
This tool has allowed me to work at my own speed and quit when tired (no rental return anxiety). My first task was taking out a cherry tree stump and roots by digging heavy compacted clay about 2 feet down and 10 feet diameter using the spade tool in lieu of a pick and then shovelling out the loosened dirt. It performed the loosening task well (Could not insert the spade at first and noticed rough particles on the tubular end. Used a strip of emery cloth to polish this up and it inserted correctly. Also, the spade is essentially an unmachined forging with about 1/2 inch thick blunt blade. I took the time to grind these edges and it performed much better). My next task is to remove concrete from fence posts for replacement of the fence. Will let you know how this turns out. I used a German made jack hammer with spade tool about 30 years back to break up the contractor compacted clay around my new home. This was a sophisticated tool, lighter weight and better all around. Having said this, do not expect the same refinements in this tool but it will do the job and the price is right.

My husband purchased this product for his business. He loves it. I only gave it 4 stars because the packaging was damaged during shipping. It was not as well protected as it should have been especially given it's weight.

My family and I just moved to the Hill Country in Austin, Tx. My wife sent me out to plant new trees and bushes in the yard when I found out I only have about 4" of soil before hitting rock. 3 hours later I had one hole using a shovel and the pick axe I eventually borrowed from a neighbor. I found this thing online and for the price of this vs renting one from Home Depot, I decided to buy so I wouldn't be forced into doing all the work in one day. I ordered it on Monday and it showed up on Friday (just about enough time for my hands to heal!!)This thing is awesome!! I paid a little more to get the spade and am very glad I did. I am now digging holes faster than my wife can plant. If you live in a rocky area this is a must have tool! Business owners - get 15 of these for the price of one hydraulic hammer and you will have more workers getting the job done! I don't think you could destroy this thing but if for some reason you do, just toss it and get another one!

- THIS IS A REAL TOOL - absolutely not a toy for kids to play with!!- priced very competitively - shipped as expected in a metal storage box (outer box material should have been stronger, to keep the metal box from somewhat/a little dented/getting banged up - used around the house in Arizona, where ground is hard LIKE CEMENT... - Extremely useful, when planting large (5 Gal. and up) container plants/trees/bushes - elderly neighbors enjoy "my free services" - helping them to dig holes at times - unit is requiring strong back - it's heavy and NOISY; I wear LARGE EAR MUFFS - cloth gloves it comes with - nice touch; but wear LEATHER instead! - uses 110 V house current - I had also purchased the solid and heavy spate attachment; the chisel attachment works well to break up chunks of excess concrete around the foundation to "blast" a path for drainage pipe etc.

For the money this is a great little jack hammer identical to Hitachi H65 which cost 850. Special Note before use apply thread locker to every screw and bolt because there is none. I found this out the hard way. Almost every head bolt vibrated out during the job I used it on. 20 x 10 patio demolition. Unit gets very hot, but wear some gloves and you will be fine. Order the extra brushes from TOOLBARN.com SKU 999044 Hitachi Carbon Brush (pair) P12RA M12V $5.09 per set. Spare parts are easy to find use Hitachi H65 parts. First set of brushes lasted 6.5 hrs before falling apart do to vibration. They should be tightened often during use. Had to install a SKU 945932 Hitachi BRUSH TERMINAL H65 H85 H90SB $1.44 ea on one side. The wiring in the handle needs to be redone found wires twisted together and plastic tubing slid over.Wires were loose thru out the handle assembly recommend rework in this area as well could be a safety issue. The Chinese manufacturer was cutting some corners when they built these but for 1/4 the price do the detail work yourself.

So I bought this with the purpose of installing a sump pump pit in my basement. In order to avoid "rental return anxiety," I figured I'd just buy my own. Then I could get it done at my own pace. The price was certainly reasonable enough, even with shipping. I could also loan it out to my pals.In short enough time, I received the hammer. It comes in an OK metal case. Not great, but sufficient. It had three bits in the package I purchased, a point, a chisel and a spade. There were instructions and some accessories. It's pretty heavy (which is a plus for hammering). There were a few wrenches and an more-or-less empty oil container. The instructions were fairly typical for a China made product. Here's an example: "5. Feeding oil (refer to the paragraph on oil feeding). Prior to using the power tool, remove the oil gauge and do not fail the oil tank with the provided oil. (Although the oil tank is built in, it contains only a small volume of oil when shipped from the works.)" Soooo, I'm not supposed to "fail" the oil tank with the supplied oil?? Well, OK, then. It continues later: "Since , oil chamber is built in this Electric Hammer, it can be used for approximately 20 days without supplying lubricating oil, assuming that the Hammer is used continuously 3~4 hours daily." So am I supposed to fill it or not????? (remember that SNL skit, "Son, you can never put too much water in a nuclear reactor.") What kind of oil does it use? "Shell Oil Co. Rotella #40 (engine oil) can also be used. This oil is sold as Shell filling stations most anywhere." Hmmmm. I don't think I can find one of those. On a local's advice, I'm probably going to use Air Compressor Oil or maybe an SAE 40. Anyway, that said, I did figure out how to insert the bits properly, and the oil level seemed OK to me. So, it was "go" time. I chose the point chisel, set it on the concrete and pulled the trigger. Brap, brap, brap, brap. I let the weight of the hammer drive the point into the concrete. Occasionally, it would hit a rock or something that would slow it, but I would either just move it or wait. It would get through. It took a few minutes to get the hang of, but after that this hammer made quick work of my slab (about 4-5"?). Frankly I was amazed at how quickly it worked. Perhaps disappointed because I found myself thinking of other things I might jackhammer. That said, I like the hammer. It feels solid. It got me through my project and, for this price, if I can use it a couple more times or loan it out, it'll be well worth it. One other thing, regarding replacement/other bits. I couldn't find any. That's not saying that there aren't any. But in the time I looked, I couldn't find any. |
