While utilizing the 34750 on our Jayco 5th Wheel at a well maintained RV resort, we had a loss of power. Upon inspection, I discovered the plug had melted at the RV site junction box. The damage was limited to the plug on the Surge Guard, which tripped as advertised prior to damage to the RV, as well as the plug in the junction box was melted. TRC would not honor their warranty stating the problem could not have been their product but faulty junction box plug at the resort. I then disassembled the unit and found the problem to be corroded connections within the surge guard itself. The corroded connections resulted in over current which lead to the failure noted. I again contacted TRC and was informed that since I broke the seal of the unit, it was no longer covered under warranty regardless of the fact that I am a certified electronic technician of over 30 years. Therefore, I would rate customer service as well as their manufacturing quality control unsatisfactory.

I purchased the TRC 34750 Surge Guard® 50-Amp Model for my motorhome. In its 13th month my Surge Guard® stopped working. I realized it had only a 12 month warranty but I hoped the factory would extend the warranty an extra month to cover my unit. I was told my TRC 34750 was out of warranty and there would be no extension. So I asked where I should send it for repair at my expense. I was told there was no “out of warranty” repair. The best they could do was to sell me a new one at a reduced price. I said “no thank you”. There are other quality surge protectors on the market, some with unlimited warranties. Consider this before investing $400+.

Purchased for my motorhome in 2010 and it lasted for 9 months. I then had it repaired under warranty after which it lasted for about ten months. It is now out of warranty. If the unit was less money Or had a longer warranty, i might recommend it. However, I replaced with an rv surge protector (from amazon) that protects against surges and monitors line integrity. I bought an inexpensive plug in volt meter to monitor voltage levels. It cost 1/3 the price.

I have had my SurgeGuard model 34750 for only 16 months and it has stopped working. No lightening strike or visible damage. So far I have made three phone calls to TRC to request warranty work. No calls back on how to file a warranty claim and tech support's answer to me was to 'keep monitoring it'. Not sure which part of 'it does not work' got the guy confused but he just sent me to someone's voicemail. Seems their tech support should be able to handle a claim right then and there rather then pawning a customer off to someone else.

I highly suggest a built in model from another company. The screen on this one really does not provide you with any great info. It is easily stolen too versus a built in model from other companies that have lifetime warranties. Sadly the TRC tech support could not even tell me what the warranty was or what it covers. He did mention I need my original receipt for any type of warranty work which tells me they don't do a lifetime warranty.

On the plus side it seems like a solid unit, easy to use and has good plug disconnect handles which flip out for use. Like your car insurance...what matters is how well the company backs its product when things go wrong and so far they have done nothing for me.

I have a 30 amp and a 50 amp unit because of a previous RV. The addition of the LCD display improves this unit over the older models. Fluctuations in power , on/off line, are kept out of my RV by the use of the timer function. I would improve this unit by having a function swith to monitor each phase for voltage and current. Still a great deal over the price of a dealership sales. I would also recommend that this device be used with a short 50 amp to 50 amp extension cord. Power pedistals are notorious for bad recepticals and it is better to burn up a plug on the extension cord and not the surge guard unit.

We bought one of these in 2005 when we started living out of our 5th wheel while on the road working (year round). Several times it shut our power down when others were still up, I'm assuming due to low voltage. We've not had to replace any of our electronics or appliances this whole time. The surge guard gave up the ghost a month ago, so we bought another just like it.
Well worth the money!

I have not used the Surge Guard enough to give it five stars but it did react once and if there was a surge, my motor home was protected. I am very pleased I made the purchase from Amazon. The delivery was as stated and expected.
