A patch panel for the rest of us,

I found the Trendnet product offerings on Amazon after getting completely fed up with the prices of patch panels and cable managers at my local datacom distributor. These patch panels are well marked, straightforward, just what you need for punching down on a rack or bracket. They don't come with any kind of wire management snap-ins, but I never use those anyway, it's just wasted plastic.

We typically use Leviton patch panels and jacks on all of our installs, but for the budget jobs, we will purchase the TRENDNET patch panels. We have installed over 25 of these patch panels, and not have had a failure with any ports. These are quality built, and look great. These always pass when we certify with our Microtest PentaScanner.

I've been studying networking and network security in school but had never actually punched down a patch panel. My parents needed one for their house with tons of wires, so I got this one to practice on. It works great.
The only thing that I had trouble with was the coloring on the back - I simply didn't read the diagram closely when I should have. There were two strips of colors (568A and 568B) one on the left and one on the right. While I knew of 568A/B, I didn't make the connection that was what the two diagrams were for - I thought one was for the left jacks and the other was for the right jacks. A dumb moment. Half were punched down A and the other half B. Later after figuring out my problem, I just repatched the wrong ones. It wasn't that bad. This unit is still worth 5 stars. The diagrams actually say which is A and which is B if you read them. It looks fine, has numbers / can be labeled as well, and all ports work without issues.

Just what it's supposed to be. It consists of blocks of six ports, and the panel is four blocks wide by two blocks high. The metal frame is sturdy. The back is labeled and color coded for T568A and T568B. You'll need a punch down tool of course. I didn't notice a problem with the blocks coming out of the frame, but then I held the front while pushing on the back as a matter of course to get enough leverage.

Compared to other higher priced patch panels, this product does everything it should. Easy to terminate, both A and B wiring is clear and easy to use. Cant really think of any improvements, other than maybe a labeling system that allows you to install paper labels for use/reuse.

My client had multiple patches with RJ-45 ports on both ends. These ports are about $4-$5 each, so she had about (8 x $4 = $32) in just extra ports. I took this panel, mounted it on a shelf and mounted the shelf to the wall. Re-punched all her patches, and ran a few more, and saved her a ton of money over buying new individual RJ-45 jacks. In addition, it looks much less chaotic in the corner of her shop where the network equipment lives.
I've used 12 of the ports thus far, and have not had a single bad port. The price was right, and the customer is happy. What more can you ask for?

I needed a patch panel to organize all my network wires in the utility room. I only needed a 16 port panel for my house, and now everything is organized and labeled making it easy to identify and connect network wires to my network switch and modem.

I would avoid these as the connectors on them are very poor. We bought one and had two bad ports (1 and 5) that when punched didn't connect through. Spent a lot of time troubleshooting and determined it was the patch panel. Buy the ICC for a little ore money. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
