works on vista,

good inexpensive option if you need a replacement dsl modem. as best I could tell, the cd rom was useless in terms of installing any drivers for Vista/Vista64. ditto for the driver zip file on the trendnet website.
thankfully, the trendnet website's OS compatibility key suggested that this unit was compatible with Vista without any driver installation. you just need to skip ahead in the instructions to the point where you enter the ISP for the modem/router in your web browser. once you do the quick configuration (entering the username/password you registered with your DSL provider) the PPP green light should come on and you're ready to go. hope this helps frustrated users who think they need to install a driver before using it!

This modem/router can do a lot than most of people even thought of. But, unless you are very technical, you should limit yourself to the quick configuration level. Anything else is too complicated to set up. I had interacted with 4 tech supports. They don't let you wait and they are polite but they can not help you on advanced settings and they claim the product is End of Life. What you get is what will be like. So, I had to figure out most advance settings by myself.
MAKE SURE you don't use USB interface as the quick start guide tells you. It is not necessary and most likely the usb software CD won't install any way. You just connect C-400 to your computer directly with Ethernet cable. After manually setting the IP address to 192.168.0.11, you can begin the setup. For simple user, the initial installation should only take 5 minutes. But, if you want to do more, it is an entirely different story. Important setting options: (1) Set it as a DSL modem only: Tech support did not know how. I found a review on [...]. Under quick configuration: Encapsulation: 1483 Bridged IP LLC Bridge: Enabled IGMP: Enabled Use DHCP: Disabled Default Route: Disabled (2) Use it as a router but want to set parental control: You need to enable bridge filter under service. (3 tech supports don't know this). You only can set it when the PC to be control in on line because you need to use Mac to block the internet access. C-400 allows you to set as many rules as possible while other routers mostly let you set only one. (3) Use it as a router but want to set SNTP to get the time from internet: Under Service, click SNTP and enter the domain name: [...]. You need to enable it (which the tech support did not instruct me so). After this, under Home, with modify: you need to select time zone (which Tech support said no). Without STNP, every time the modem loses power, the time will not be accurate. ----------- I teamed up C-400 with a gigabit switch and a gigabit Ethernet wireless-n AP. The combined 3-piece solution outperformed Netgear DGND 3300 (3-in-1 solution). This issue of Netgear DGND3300 is that, although wireless-n connection claims 270mbps, the transfer between LAN and WAN is limited to 16 mbps. If you have a networked hard drive, it is better not to use this integrated solution because one bottleneck will defeat the purpose of having wireless-n. Initially, I would team up C-400 (as a dsl modem) with Neargear WNDR3700 (a 2-iece solution). But, the tech supports did not know how to set it up as a passthru modem. So, I purchased gigabit switch instead. I upgraded my ATT DSL to 6 mbps and C-400 operates at full link speed. Now, I can stream HD movie from netflix with excellent video quality. I recommend this product only if you just want a simple DSL modem router with no advance settings.

The Trendnet TDM-C400 is unique in that setup can be anywhere from totally automatic to completely manual - A joy to use for noobs and geeks alike.
All I did was use the quick config to set up the bridging to my router (setting it up as a passthrough) and then set up my router to do the DSL login, disable the modem's DHCP server and that was that. The reason I bridged the modem to my router is because my network was already set up and I didn't want to have to set it up all over again, or I would've just used the DHCP server part of it, too. The only thing keeping this product from receiving five stars from me is the interface can be confusing because of the myriad choices you can make. My advice is the same as what the manual recommends: use automatic settings where possible. It shouldn't defeat the determined noob, and it should cause waves of pleasure to wash over the experienced uber-geek. Overall, it is a solid choice for a complete DSL/Network solution!

I'm giving this modem 3 stars, since it worked like an absolute dream on my wife's computer once I plugged in our AT&T settings. Sadly, the modem *will not* install drivers without the USB cable attached, and on my computer it kicked back an "Error Loading newdev.dll", even after I went to the trouble of going to their official site and downloading drivers directly.
The only "fix" I could find, suggested that my USB drivers were corrupted (though I've never had a problem with any other USB device), and that I should try uninstalling Windows Service Pack 3 and/or attempt to obtain updated USB drivers from my motherboard manufacturer. Alas, I don't have the time or patience to go to all this trouble for a lousy $39 modem, so back in the box it goes... I really wanted to like this modem, and I've heard great things about their reliability, but it seems stupid that they only give you one method of installing drivers, and you're completely boned if they don't work.

I just installed it yesterday as I changed from Cable to AT&T. I just plugged in all the lines and it works prefect. I also connected it to my wireless router and it works perfect too.

I used it with SBC DSL and I'm surprised that I found a router that works this cheap. Recommend it, just a little note though, I found it hard to install.

After my buggy Speedstar DSL modem died, I tried other brand. Somehow that modem/router/switch decided to apply firewall of its own. So may unacceable pages... so frustrating... After 2 days of use, I tried my luck with this TrendNet ADSL modem - compare to previous one, it only has one ethernet port - no switch.
This modem is so easy to setup: took less than a minute from box, plug in power cord, connecting all cables etc., All you have to do is connect DSL line to this modem/router, connect other end to a switch, release and refesh my computer IP address, and no time I was able to access router/modem's setup via web page. It really took less than a minute to get this point!!!! Took 4 seconds to type in my user name and password and I'm running with full speed. All the site that I was not able to access is now clicks away. It's about $20 cheaper than "Z" brnad that I had. You don't need a driver or need to be an engineer because pretty much basic router config is done via web browser. If you cannot connect to the router/modem, try good old Dos prompt command line: ipconfig /release and ipconfing /renew under run command (run>CMD) line in Windows. ROUTER/MODEM does not need a driver, unless they have proprietary software that supposely make things easy for users, which I think is ridicuosly complicated and waste of time. All I need to test now is how long it'll last under pressure of constant downloads... My previous Z modem last 24 hours and had to be reset...

I bought this to replace a dying router. During the interim, I was using an older router that worked just fine except for crashing the head end every six months or so. My DSL connection works fine with the older router. With this one, it connects, passes traffic for literally a matter of seconds, then stops passing traffic AND stops responding to HTTP requests for administering the thing until you power cycle it. So basically it was DOA right from the start. It worked fine day before yesterday during the couple of hours I spent configuring the thing without it connected to a phone line. and it worked fine in offline testing today when it failed to come up the first time I plugged it in. So apparently the failure is some rather serious problem with the ADSL side of the hardware. EIther way, it's going back to Fry's.

Trendnet ADSL modem router TDM-C400,

I had bought this modem to replace my old, burnt out modem that I had initially got from AT&T. I was going to buy the same old AT&T modem but had read really good reviews about this particular modem/router. Since I had a Trendnet router already and I've no problems with that product, I decided to purchacse this modem/router. For some reason, I thought that this modem/router was going to replace my wireless router. It does act as a WIRED router but not as a wireless router. So in order to retain my WiFi signal, I still had to use my Trendnet Wireless router. That being said, the modem works great. My old modem would sometimes get really hot and freeze up, forcing me to restart it at least 2-3 times a month. So far, I've not had to restart this modem at all and it's been about a month. Going to keep my fingers crossed! The only gripe I have is that the modem is very technical. It's not very user friendly. I had to call customer support to help with the setup. The tech was very good and was able to help me setup the modem in about 1 hr. I would have given the product five stars if the setup was easier. Overall, good product for the money!
