These worked great right out of the box. I plugged them in, they found each other and in less than ten minutes out of the box I had a network switch with eight computers plugged in and running to the router downstairs. In the past, I used a wireless access point to connect the computers to the wireless router downstairs and my network delay was between 10ms and 100 ms. With the TPL-406E2Ks, my delay is now a quality 2ms. Until early this week that is.

I got on my treadmill and noticed my ProForm Google maps will load as they had before I bought the adapters. So I get off the treadmill, and the maps download (nice troubleshooting right?) I start up a ping test on my computer and get back on the treadmill and notice that the network delay ranges from 1248ms to "unreachable network". So then I tried with blow driers, and exercise bike, blender, drill and some other household items. only the treadmill killed the network. So if you are thinking about using a treadmill that is connected to the network, make sure the treadmill is on another circuit... I suppose.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The TRENDnet Compact Powerline Ethernet AV adapter kit consists of two HomePlug adapters. Using one unit to transmit network signal from the router, you can connect up to seven adapters to share a broadband connection, all without using ugly Ethernet cables running all over the house. Instead, the electrical power line inside the walls is used to create a network that can share the Internet connection from the router. Each adapter plugged into an electrical outlet in a room will bring in the Internet broadband into that room, and you can connect network devices and computers to it as usual.

The adapter is quite compact, measuring 2 X 2 3/4 X 1 1/16 (W X H X D) inches. It is made of quality white plastic with a glossy finish. There are three indicator lights on the adapter: PWR for power, PL for Power Line, and ETH for Ethernet. The PL indicator could display three colors, depending on the signal quality: Green is Best, Orange is Better, and Red is Good.

Although no software needs to be installed in order to begin using this network, you have to install the provided CD if you want to change the encryption password or see more detailed information about the network, such as signal quality, transfer rate, password, and MAC address of each adapter.

It is best that the adapters are plugged into the wall socket, and not to a surge suppressor or a multiple outlet extension.

Also, the adapter that is to transmit the Internet signal should be DIRECTLY connected to the router, and not through a network switch, then to the router.

This device works very well, and TRENDnet offers a generous 3 years of warranty.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Things don't get much easier than this. I plugged both into the wall, plugged the included CAT5e cables into the computer and router respectively and it worked! I then moved the one to a far part of the house that is fed by an electrical subpanel and it still worked just fine. I pulled the full internet bandwidth that I get with a wired connection and even a mid-twenties ping, which is excellent (especially with the distance between them).

I like how small these units are, much smaller than the TP-Link competition.

One thing doesn't make sense, though. One the box it says it has the best speed, which is 500Mbps. It also says that it has an ethernet port of 10/100Mbps on each unit. I just looked at TP-Link Powerline Adapter (TL-PA211 STARTER KIT), and Linksys Powerline AV 1-Port Network Adapter Kit (PLEK400) which are 200Mbps, and they have 10/100Mbps ports as well. There seems to only be two explanations: 1) the manufacturers are playing marketing games and deceiving us 2) whether you buy a 200 or 500Mbps adapter, you'll never actually get over 100Mbps anyway, so why bother adding the cost of a gigabit port. After watching Linksys's marketing over the years, I could believe it is either or a combination of both.

Overall, if you are looking for a simple way to get a CAT5 cable to your device, this is simple. Just don't expect to get higher than 100Mbps, because it is impossible with this device.

I bought this unit to replace my Belkin Powerline which I've used for nearly 2 years. The Belkin worked great except for the speed. So I bought the Trendnet unit thinking that it would be a speedier upgrade. Once I received the product I installed it on the same outlets that I used for the Belkin. The speed was definitely an improvement, but unfortunately the reliability was not. I would get frequent sudden disconnections and have to wait around a minute for it to reconnect again. This happened on and off and got more and more frequent. I decided to contact Trendnet and their support was no help at all. Telling me to change outlets and keep everything else unplugged. I did that and also mentioned that my Belkin never had these issues. Their response was that the chipsets are different and respond differently to electrical spikes. Anyway, I gave up on the tech support since it wasn't going anywhere. The "chipsets" in these units are obviously lacking, so my recommendation would be to stay away.

Hi LogicZone,

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing the issue using this powerline product, and we definitely want to help get it up and running without sudden disconnections. Just for a troubleshooting purpose, we will recommend to choose different power outlets to see if sudden disconnections occur or not while still maintaining higher speed. If it doesn't help please contact me at adrian@trendnet.com with "Amazon TPL-406E2K" in the subject line and I will respond immediately to go through the RMA process with you. We are looking forward to hearing back from you soon and hoping to restore your faith in TRENDnet's products.

Warmest regards,

Adrian
