I purchased a new laptop computer and decided to install a solid state drive, so I bought a Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT256M4SSD2 from Amazon. When I got my new laptop, I made a backup of the hard drive, and I made an image of the hard drive that it came with. Then I plugged this product, the Tripp Lite USB 3.0 SuperSpeed to SATA Adapter Cable into the laptop and the new SSD. Using the free version of Acronis Migrate Easy, I clicked a button or two and my hard drive was cloned over to the new SSD. I chose to do this rather than a fresh Windows 7 install knowing that if the OS didn't sense it was running a SSD I could always do a fresh install later.

After cloning to the new SSD, I unplugged the cable and shut down the laptop, took out the battery and pressed the start button for a while to discharge the energy. Then I removed the HD from the laptop and inserted the SSD. Put the screws back in, started it up and I was fully booted in 20 seconds! The laptop runs MUCH cooler now and I don't worry quite as much about banging it around.

I could have purchased a SSD with a migration kit, and you may want to, but I chose to purchase this inexpensive cable and use the free trial of Migrate Easy to do the job. If I wanted to, I could use this cable after wiping the OS off the old drive, to connect and use it as an external drive. But I have a Western Digital My Book Essential 3 TB USB 3.0/2.0 Desktop External Hard Drivethat I use for data storage.

we looked at a number of stores and couldn't find what we needed. This is perfect and works great. I'd buy again if I needed one.

When I have a client pc or laptop with any 'SATA' drive problems I would have to use my bench pc to test, but now I can plug into my laptop on site to diagnose problems. Flawless performance, Thanks!
