5.0 out of 5 stars Trudel is a Monster, November 8, 1999
This review is from: TRUDEL, Alain: Jericho's Legacy (Audio CD)
Alain Trudel's mastery of the trombone is so advanced there are times you forget you're listening to anything but a voice making music. His chops are among the best ever but he doesn't showcase them, they exist to serve the music. The fun he's having is infectious, he remebers that you "Play" music, it not onorous or too serious. The tone is not typical of jazz players, his classical training comes through. Everything is clean, the tone is "right", pitch is never in question, articulations are clean when called upon, blurred when required.

Just imagine playing second to him in a section, you have got to be on your toes. I lived it . . . quite an education, or should I say adventure!

Any aspiring trombonist needs to listen to a master "play" or should I say "MONSTER", Alain is one top of the trombone kingdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music played by virtuosity, June 2, 2001
By
Luis A. Flores Jr. (Miami, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: TRUDEL, Alain: Jericho's Legacy (Audio CD)
Alain Trudel and his quartet make a tremendous effort in this recording. The album, which was recorded in 1998, treats the jazz idiom with approaches from modern classical music as well as with influences from the Miles Davis jazz quintet of the mid 1960's . A treat to all trombone players and fans is the virtuosity of Trudel. Just his creative interpretation of Monk's classic "Round Midnight" (with solo trombone, no other instruments) is worth the price of the album.
