4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not perfect
Overall I'm pleased with this toaster but it's not perfect. While it toasts evenly and is easy to use, the slots aren't long enough for some breads I've found. These aren't special breads, but normal loaves from the store. This requires me to lay the slice in length-wise and have about 1 inch stick out of the top (not getting toasted). Bagels can be a very tight fit...

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks good, but not quite perfect
This toaster is actually the nicest toaster I have ever owned. I struggled between 3 and 4 stars, but really, it's a toaster. If it doesn't do everything you want, you can't really find something else to compensate.

Pros: Love the digital controls and the timer.

Bagels can be a very tight fit depending on their size (length and width). English muffins toast perfectly, and are easy to remove. Also, as a nitpick, the buttons for the controls have a cheap feel to them when pressed.

Pros: Love the digital controls and the timer.
Slots are more than wide enough to accept bagels
Toasts my bagels and english muffins to perfection

Cons: As others mentioned, the slots are not long enough to take longer pieces of bread, like a panini
This is the worst for me: the power cord is PAINFULLY short. I don't think it's even 12 inches. If you have a huge kitchen and tons of counter space, you may not see this as a problem. But my kitchen is tiny, and I have a SINGLE outlet to use. Because of the cord's length, I practically have to have this up against the wall (the controls on the side add to this problem, it seems to me every other toaster I have owned has the controls on the front). It's inconvienent, because I have other appliances that stay on my counter all the time, I only take this out for breakfast. Because this cord is so short, I always have to rearrange my counter top every morning. I guess I could get an extension cord or move my blender, but really, why can't Krups put a power cord on this thing that's the same length as the rest of my appliances?

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a proper defrost setting..., October 31, 2009

This review is from: KRUPS TT6190 2-Slice Digital Toaster, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I received this toaster as a gift for my birthday two months ago and have been using it every day (often several times per day). For a decade I've been on a yeast-free gluten-free diet which means I have to make my own bread and freeze it. Long ago I had a toaster that would defrost the bread and then toast. It was a great machine until it died. Since then I have gone through quite a few toasters only to discover the 'defrost' is actually just prolonged toasting which basically means my toast comes out burnt, or burnt on the edges and undercooked in the center. The Krups finally gets it right. For the first time in years my toast comes out perfectly and there is the option to just heat the bread without toasting. It's brilliant! You can actually feel the warmth in the defrost cycle, but the elements do not come on until it's toasting time.

Other advantages are the simple setting via the digital backlit screen. It's lcd screen and stainless finish are quite stylish and modern. The timer counts down for you so you know exactly how long you've got to go. The slots are wide enough for bagels, hamburger buns and hot dog buns slid in at an angle (and for the bagel setting it only toasts the inner part of the bagel and not the outer if you prefer and that does work great for hot dog/hamburger buns too).

Some disadvantages (though they do not apply to my needs) are that the slots are not elongated. So, if you like rye bread or really long slices this toaster may not be adequate. Also, the cord is kind of short which may not be useful to some people. This is not an issue for me since the outlet is directly behind it.

Overall, this toaster is highly recommended for anyone who freezes bread and needs a proper defrost and general toasting of regular bread, bagels and buns.

Edit - It's now November 2011 and the toaster is still working properly (I'm getting nervous now lol) The printing has rubbed off the buttons, but that's about it at this point. Note that this machine has been used multiple times per day every day since I received it. (I shamelessly live off sandwiches :P ) I notice a lot of newer reviews seem to be unhappy with the unit, so I'm wondering if the production quality changed over time, which does seem to happen all too often these days. Of course when I received the toaster it was also double in price. When this one does go, which will probably be soon considering modern standards of gadgetry, I expect I might try this version again to see how it goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, August 24, 2009
This review is from: KRUPS TT6190 2-Slice Digital Toaster, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This Krups Toaster is certainly worth the money. There is no need to go shopping. I compared this product to all other brands found in stores, and this one has the best features and clean look. The countdown timer, crumb tray, defrost, bagel settings, are only a few of the reasons to purchase this toaster. The push-down knob is nice and firm: does not wiggle, does not slide down as if it were on a cheap spring. Browning settings from 1-9 adjusts perfectly.

I read many, many reviews on my top three toaster choices, and decided on this Krups because it's a good size, I like the curved look (no sharp corners) and it has a blue digital display that gives the darkness level of the toast as well as counting down the minutes/seconds until it's ready. It's simple and it toasts perfectly. My one concern from reviews was that the slots weren't really wide enough, but that just isn't true. I usually make my own bread, and a cut generous slices. No problem. I've also used commercial bagels (the toaster has a bagel feature which crisps the inside and keeps the outside softer), and bagel slices fit fine, too. The other toasters I was considering had a larger footprint, so the size, looks, toasting capability, and simple features make this toaster just perfect. I strongly recommend it.

My wife and I are very pleased with this toaster. Definately the best toast of any toaster we have had - Very consistant
Count-down timer is nice as is the bagel setting to toast the inside of the bagel more than the outside.
Looks good too. The cord is approximately 18" which is plenty if the toaster is near an outlet.
My only Con is that it is light weight; but that is not a problem.

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing a new toaster and this one got high marks from just about everyone. I concur. I have only so far used the toaster feature, not the bagel or frozen, but I can say that I don't remember ever getting a more evenly toasted piece of bread. It is also handy that it has a timer to let you know how long it will take to toast the bread. Go get one! You won't be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slots not big enough, February 24, 2008
This review is from: KRUPS TT6190 2-Slice Digital Toaster, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I ordered this one, but ended up returning it. The slots are not wide enough for most "whole grain" type sandwich bread, which tends to have bigger slices. As an example, if you by Milton's bread, sorry, it won't work. The only way you'll get it in is to trim off the edges. Even if you try to put it in with the short side first, it doesn't work that well; too much of the bread sticks out of the top & you end up with an inch or so that is un-toasted. I returned the Krups and got the Breville instead.

Well made and worth the money. Purchaser must remember to remove the strip of adhesive from the surface of the LED immediately before trying to use the item.

I bought it to use with viriety of gluten-free breads. The unit is great, toasts everything evenly. Defrost function works brilliant, slices come out toasted all the way through, no cold spots/burned edges. Countdown timer is a nice perk. Overall design is superb.
