'TURTLE SOUP' is considered by fans and critics to be their finest album. Penning all the material, the band were now calling their own shots, including their surprising choice of THE KINK's Ray Davies to produce. This was Davies' first non-KINKS production and the band came up with songs that were inspired by his latest opus, the then contemporary KINKS' pastoral 'VILLAGE GREEN,' including jangling acoustic guitars, plucked basses and cellos, and new member John Seiter's (from SPANKY & OUR GANG) sympathetic drumming. Although 'TURTLE SOUP' didn't generate any monster hits, it's a broader and richer recording. Their preceding concept album, 'PRESENT THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS' found the group experimenting with different genres away from the assembly-line pop material their label White Whale continual tried to foist upon them, with 'TURTLE SOUP' continuing their quest for autonomy. Unfortunately 'TURTLE SOUP' did not light-up the charts (#117US) and became THE TURTLES final album, they disbanded shortly after it's release (the following 'WOODEN HEAD' was a posthumous collection of unreleased material)......

The Japanese Daiki Sound/Blimp Mini-lp release sounds fantastic and comes in a matte finish textured cardboard sleeve exactly like that of the original LP. It also has a reproduction of the original LP's inner sleeve with lyrics and such printed on shopping bag type paper again like the original release. Talk about attention to detail!
