This worked terrific on my new Vizio LCD TV and we love it. Used the Audio out ports without a problem. It even works over 30 feet away. We found that the IR bounces well off the walls and when we use in a large space we face the back of the unit to the TV. We can lower the volume to nearly nothing on the TV and the speaker still works but when we mute the TV, the system mutes as well.

EDIT: An update on this speaker. It has been almost a two months since I set the speaker up for my parents. I noticed a lound hiss coming from the speaker two days ago so decided to see what the problem might be.There were some items behind the speaker on the table that the speaker was sitting on. When I reached back to move the items I noticed that the hiss got louder. After I removed the items the hiss went away completely. I then moved my hand behind the speaker and the hiss came back. After some investigation I noticed that as my fingers got in front of a clear circular disk on the back that is covering four small light bulb looking items in a cross shape pattern that the hiss would return. It seems those are some sort of receptors for the wireless signal and need to be kept clear of. If you are getting a loud hiss or some other static from the speaker try making sure there is nothing behind the speaker that might be causing the trouble. Keep at least a 3 inch (76.2mm) clearance for the clear disk on the back of the speaker. Any small item too close will cause the hiss to return. If the back of the speaker is too close to a wall it will cause the hiss to return. I even tried a piece of 20# printer paper and the hiss returned if the paper was too close. Once the proper clearance is given the hiss is gone and a clear, crisp sound comes from the speaker. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I bought one of these for my aging parents since they tend to turn the TV sound way up to hear the spoken dialogue. They have a new HD Sony Bravia TV. Set up was easy. As with any good wireless speaker system you have to hook the transmitter up to the audio out jacks on the TV and you have to provide power to the transmitter. There are other type of wireless speaker systems where you put a microphone in front of the TV speaker then hook up the microphone to the transmitter, but those are real bad since they pick up any background noise too. There are probably some battery operated ones too, but you know you are going to go through a lot of batteries. There is a power supply that you plug into the speaker too. So if wireless to you means no wires at all then good luck in finding something that fits that description. The speaker does not have to be exactly in line with the transmitter. I placed the transmitter on a side table to one side of the TV and the speaker about 15 feet away on a side table on the same side of the room with the front of the speaker facing the transmitter. The speaker picked up the signal from the transmitter with no problems. I noticed that if the speaker is rotated 90 degrees so the side is facing the transmitter that it would still pick up a signal until someone got between the transmitter and the speaker. With the speaker facing the transmitter someone could be between the two and the speaker still picked up the signal from the transmitter with no problem. The audio from the speaker really helps with the dialogue from the program being watched. That is really helpful for when the characters are speaking with a low voice. Even the music track and special effects don't drown out the voices now. The volume on the TV can be turned way down yet the speaker still gives good, crisp audio. With Fixed audio set up on the TV, when you mute the TV the speaker is not muted. With Variable audio set up the speaker mutes when you mute the TV. You can find those settings in the Audio menu on most of the new TVs. All in all this product is very good and highly recommended for those that have trouble hearing the dialogue on TV shows.

I purchased this for my 87 yr old father who is in a retirement community and has a new large screen LCD TV. I had reservations because of the first reviewer's problem but the speaker and transmitter work just fine with the "audio out" port. The unit provides more clear voice representation and better sound quality than the TV turned up loudly. With the TV Ears speaker on the table next to him he doesn't need the volume up so loud that it disturbs neighbors. It is a bit pricey even at $100 ($169 on TV Ears website, $118 on Ebay) but it is worth it. Dad likes turning the sound down manually with the volume dial rather than trying to find the volume down button on the remote (way too many buttons). Overall a great purchase which is doing exactly what I bought it for.

You don't want to bother anyone and want to be independent; you don't hear too good, but you don't want to stop enjoying your favorite movies, news, etc. Well, this was my choice and it worked better than I thought. You connect the transmitter unit to the audio jack (for me it was on the side of an LCD TV, connect the power to it with supplied power cube, that's it for the transmitter side. Set your speaker unit near you and connect the power to it. You're done.Turn your TV on, drop the volume to any desired setting (even none), turn the Volume control on the Speaker to your desired volume or connect furnished earphones for complete privacy and enjoy. If your mate wants more volume use the Remote. The Unit has a higher frequency volume augmentation built-in which makes people with high frequency deficiency (can't hear high tones with speach or music) enjoy their audio sounds. I got this for my good friend - who is really enjoying the "ears". By the way, if you're having a problem finding the audio output jacks on your TV, ask your grandkid super computer kid - he'll find it. Regards to all, enjoy, NikonNick

This actually works better than I thought it would. (I was skeptical.) My husband has it situated right next to his chair. Usually, we can listen just to this speaker in place of the TV speakers. It's soft enough for me on the other side of the room and loud enough for my husband if placed next to where he's sitting.

Does not work with Digital Audio Out,

Important to understand that this product does not work with Digital Audio Out, just analog. Product is completely useless with the newer digital televisions. Also realize that the speaker must be in line of sight of transmitter as it works with infra red signals. Did not see this on any of the product information online. It is clearly printed on the paperwork enclosed in the speaker itself.

I bought it for my mother who is losing her hearing. I was impressed with the sound from the system. It was very clear. On another review someone complained about the sound of it with music. It isn;t the best for music but for the majority of the stuff on TV, it works great. I was also worried about the link between the two units being that it is done with infered technology. I tested the unit behind the couch and even worked there. It worked great for me.

This is a worthwhile unit to have, especially for seniors who are gradually becoming a bit hard of hearing. My only complaint is that the sending unit must almost be exactly perpendicular to the speaker or it starts to fade. When aligned it is a good device.

This item is exactly as described. It is easy to set up and use and has made a big difference in my TV watching experience. I like that it is wireless and can also be used with ear buds. It is not unsightly so therefore it looks fine wherever you set it up.
