The True Sound of Iggy,
By Spiritof67 "spiritof67" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: TV Eye: 1977 Live (Audio CD)
I don't know what the other reviewers who returned this wanted from a recording; maybe they wanted Year 2003 quality recording, like Yanni Live. THIS IS IGGY FROM THE 70's! TV Eye is the best live recording of The True Sound of Iggy, and TV Eye is the proof. Like it or not, "bootleg" sound or no, this is what his band sounded like, and it mightily kicks. The over the top guitar and bass playing, Iggy shouting and moaning the lyrics, it's the best. It was also, I believe, the very first album to sport a full sized parental warning sticker, God bless him. If you want more civilized, better produced music, look elsewhere. If you want the True Sound of the man who would insult anyone and literally bleed for his audience, buy this and play it LOUD!

Brutally honest,

This was Iggy in his truest form, climbing up from the bottom. There was something about the way he screamed "I got a right" that let you know, he certainly did and he worked it for all it was worth. Maybe not the best production of it's time but still the most honest. this guy was possessed. Music was a drag and then there was glam. Iggy Pop walked that fine line between them, he spit off to the side

Terrific,

Terrific live album of this intractable musician. Iggy Pop can hardly be surpassed in fierceness and intensity. He behaves like a hurt wild animal that has been urged into narrowness and now beats out blindly. Whereas the studio versions of the songs are already quite fast, the pace on these live versions is just breathtaking. I don't want to highlight any single songs. They are all excellent. By the way, on piano is David Bowie who also has written some songs together with Iggy Pop.

Simply a GREAT Iggy Live Album!,

A good selection from his Lust for Life/The Idiot support tour. Tight band with the Sales Brothers in his rhythm section. A good selection of tunes from both the Stooges repertiore and his own blossoming solo act. Probably my favorite version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog," and well as the best live version of "I Got a Right." Overall, an incredible live collection by Mr. Pop.

Most professional reviews that I've read trash this album but it's one of my favourites so it's nice to see some positive reviews. I even like the sound quality - it's got some muscle that I've never heard on another live album. The whole band sounds perfect.

Iggy Pop - 'TV Eye,1977 Live' (Virgin),
By
This review is from: TV Eye: 1977 Live (Audio CD)
Good eight song 'live' album that was in support of the Igster's first two solo records,'Lust For Life' and 'The Idiot'.Surprisingly ENOUGH after I've heard several old school fans slam this CD,I actually liked it pretty well myself.Tracks that'll have me playing this disc semi-frequently (for at least awhile) are "Sixteen",the *ss-kicking "Lust For Life","Nightclubbing"(forgotten just HOW much I really do love this cut)and "I Wanna Be Your Dog".Duration is just 35 minutes, but even by TODAY'S standards, this CD still rocks.True prime-o Detroit punk.A should-have.

no good,

The sound quality is horrible. Most of the songs are unlistenable, especially "Nightclubbing" and "Lust for Life". The two songs that I find enjoyable on this live cd are "Funtime" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog", but it doesn't even matter because the rest is horrible. I bought this cd on a Friday and I took it to a used cd store on a Sunday. If you want a live Iggy Pop cd, I recommend Sister Midnight. It was recorded on the same tour.

Pop Goes The Recording Contract,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: TV Eye: 1977 Live (Audio CD)
To complete his record deal with RCA Records, Iggy Pop took the soundboard tapes from a trio of 1977 concerts - The Agora (Cleveland), The Aragon (Chicago), The Uptown Theater (Kansas City) - and tossed in some overdubs for this edgy chronicle of a tour which featured David Bowie on keyboards.
Though the sound has a muddled, bootleg-like quality, the eight tracks is Pop in his performance art mode, with the standouts being the title track, Funtime, Lust For Life and Nightclubbing. Overlooked when it was initially released due to a lack of any record label promotion, this is a minimalist portrait of an energized Pop who is back on top of his game due to getting a handle on his personal demons.

The best song of The Stooges: Dirt. Listen it carefully!!!. The others songs fall because of the quality of the recording (not too good).

yuck,
This review is from: TV Eye: 1977 Live (Audio CD)
This LP/CD rates just a few notches above a bootleg. I have better bootlegs of this tour. Iggy has been quoted as saying this record was his 'F U' to RCA to fulfill his contract.
The songs are great but the production/sound is god awful. My band's practice sounded better than this. It's a fill-in for a catalog item plus with it having Bowie on keys and vocals.... I saw this tour in Columbus OH at the Agora--this CD doesn't even come close to the live show BAD BAD BAD 2 stars because---1) Iggy Pop------2)the set list |
