I used to be a Tabasco fan. I really did.

But now, I can't help but see how flawed it is. And I think its popularity is due not to its quality, but due to it being a recognizable brand. People are used to it. They're comfortable with it. And once you get used to something, you tend to enjoy it. But after sampling a good 20-or-so other sauces (ranging in brands, ingredients, flavors, Scoville Ratings, etc.) over the past few months, I just can't bring myself to come back to Tabasco, because it doesn't hold up. The quality shockingly just isn't as high as you might think. In fact, I find it to be quite low-quality.

Being more critical and analytical of hot sauces now after having had more experience with them, Tabasco just comes off now as quite cheap-tasting and with no real flavor. The flavor is unpleasant and almost exclusively comprised of overbearing notes of vinegar that attack the tastebuds. The actually "peppery" notes of Tabasco are so overwhelmed by the vinegar, that they are near-unnoticeable. Now, I have no problem with vinegar. It's a fine condiment on its own, but I don't want a hot-sauce to be nothing but vinegar. That defeats the purpose.

The vinegar also betrays the "heat" aspect of the sauce in a bad way. Due to the overwhelming "vinegary" nature of the sauce, it creates an artificial-feeling sensation in the mouth that feels more "chemically" than natural. Thus, the burn feels harsh and "false."

To me, that's the mark of a bad sauce. A good sauce should have a pleasant flavor through it's ingredients that compliments dishes and as a "natural feeling" burn. The best sauces I've had in terms of burn give the sensation of an almost literal feeling of fire. Of course, it depends on the Scoville rating.

I have been a longtime user and a huge fan of Tobasco sauce for at least the past 13 years. I cannot get enough of it, it is flavorful and spicy and makes everything taste excellent. I use it for cooking and as a general condiment, it's also a perfect salt substitute because this adds a punch without as much sodium as table salt. Tobasco is especially great with chicken, seafood, beef, barbecue, Italian food, Asian foods, Tex-Mex, eggs and in sauces, casseroles and ground beef recipes. I always keep at least 2 large jars in my kitchen (a 12 ounce and 5 ounce one) that are literally used multiple times each day. It doesn't make foods "hot," instead Tobasco just adds to the natural flavors by enhancing what you're preparing. I will never touch or try another hot sauce because nothing can compare to the rich and full flavor of Tobasco. Tobasco is absoltely the best condiment that will ever enter your kitchen and mine.

Bought as a gift. Dunno why. My dad wanted to get some bottles for the family back in the Philippines. They love it apparently. And I'd be damned if I said I wasn't a fan of Tabasco myself. It goes with just about anything, but I mainly use it on my fries. Sometimes on my burger if it's got grilled onions on top of an Angus beef patty and a sourdough bun. I think I will go eat now.

What is there to say? It's Tobasco. It's larger than the standard size. These are the seven more words required.

Even with high shipping charges, it ends up being cheaper than the local grocery stores if you eat a lot of Tabasco sauce! I order them by the dozen which is perfect because then they come in a nice case of 12, perfect for storing in a pantry.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Tabasco Sauce but only on a limited number of foods. It has a great heat and flavor mix, but there are so many better tasting hot sauces that don't use so much vinegar.
I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 Stars. I really was on the fence between a 3 and a 4 star rating but I rounded up in all fairness.
I know, it seems a bit low for such an iconic brand condiment, but it is just my opinion.

What are my qualifications? My entire top shelf of my refrigerator is dedicated to hot sauces, and I have tried just about everything I can find and buy from local markets, as well as online.

Great for bloody mary's or just about anything that uses tomato as it's base sauce mix. Also good to add to your hot wing sauce if you need a bit more heat.

In my opinion the vinegar overpowers many other foods that I enjoy. For some reason, it just works very well with Tomato Juice and Tomato sauces. It is also decent on pizza.

One of the biggest pros, however, is that it is all natural. No preservatives and it lasts for a very long time with our without refrigeration. Since I like healthy choices, I always have this in my kitchen. It is a must buy for any spice lover, but do expand your taste buds with many other hot sauce choices.

First of all, I'd like to mention how impressed I was with the packaging! I received a box that contained padding to keep the Tabasco box from shaking around. Within the Tabasco box was the bubble-wrapped bottle of Tabasco sauce, packed so securely I actually had to pull it out with a bit of force. I was worried the bottle would come broken, to be honest, so this was a huge relief.

As for the Tabasco, it's my go-to hot sauce. At somewhere between 2,500 and 5,000 on the Scoville scale, the original red has just enough heat for my taste buds. Its flavor is so smooth that I can add a few dashes to almost anything I want (sweet treats excluded) without disrupting the dish's taste.

If you've never tried Tabasco sauce, buy a smaller bottle to ensure you like it. However, if you are a fan of Tabasco and want a bigger bottle for all of your cooking and dining needs, this is the product. It gets to you quickly and safely with Amazon shipping and the Tabasco is tasty, as always!
