5.0 out of 5 stars Best medical dictionary ever.
This is the BEST medical dictionary I have used. I have been doing medical transcription for 8 years and this is the only dictionary I use now. In the beginning, I tried other dictionaries but this one was far superior to any of the others. I haven't even gotten around to using the CD that came with this dictionary because the book itself serves my needs. Many entries...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
As a nursing student, I thought this book would be a great help...it isn't. The few basic definitions I've needed so far aren't listed. I've had to use Wikipedia, which is really sad when I have a "medical dictionary" sitting in front of me. I really wish I'd gone with the Mosby's. It might be helpful in advanced settings, but not educational. Also, the print is small and...

Many entries are cross referenced and a lot of entries offer clinical information, such as how the condition is diagnosed and how to treat it, which comes in handy when trying to decipher a medication or a lab test that goes with a certain condition. I highly recommend this medical dictionary and will always have one as long as I am transcribing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 30, 2010

This review is from: Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, 21st Edition (Thumb Index Version) (Hardcover)
I was disappointed with Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionay 21st ed. (thumb index version + CD). When I tried looking up items on the CD for audio pronunciation, they weren't in the dictionary and vice versa! Example: "Epihyal" is in the audio pronunciation guide, but not in the dictionary. I can pronounce it now, but I don't know the definition of "epihyal". The nice part of this is the Latin appendices and the Greek alphabet (which comes from the first two letters of the Greek alphabet, alpha and beta).

The seller gave me extremely good service in shipping out my order promptly; I was just disappointed with the item itself. I will keep it anyway. I hope Taber's improves the next edition.

Just about anything you could ever need to lookup is neatly organized in this handy, space saving reference book.
As this is my 1st Taber's I really can't say how different/updated it actually is from previous versions, and I haven't delved too deeply into the online/smartphone app companions...
What I do know is that this is a MUST for Nsg. school - the extra weight in my book-bag everyday is worth the ability to cross-reference terms presented in our textbooks on the fly.
The BEST thing about Taber's is how helpful it is in clinicals. Don't understand what the Dr. just said about your patient's condition? Taber's is there to demystify.
I love how comprehensive it is and the ranges of terminology covered. I've also been able to find clarifications on "non-medical" terms I've come across in my studies.

I actually felt a happy pang in my stomach when I received my very first Tabors!I work in a hospital and have referred to the desktop Tabors for years. Now to have my own, it is second only to the Bible in my home. God first always! The color photos of actual afflictions and the professional illustrations are total quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 21st Edition, March 27, 2009
This review is from: Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, 21st Edition (Thumb Index Version) (Hardcover)
I am currently a nursing student in my final year. I have seen a number of medical encyclopedias / dictionaries, and in my opinion, Taber's is by far the best I have used. It is loaded with useful illustrations, and never did this cyclopedia not contain the medical term I was looking for information on. Judge for youself, but I don't believe that you will find another medical dictionary / encyclopedia any better than Taber's, and most of them are not nearly as good.

This is the Tabers to get! Comes with a DVD with a digital copy for P.C! The thumb index also makes it easy to flip to the area you are looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every medical field student or career needs one.., February 24, 2011

Not always the easiest thing to use as the words are very small and the pages are very thin but if you need to know any medical word meaning then it is just a few finger flips away. I love my dictionary.

I used to have an older one, but the new edition is much more concise. Very well formated and easy to follow.
