A Real Weeper,
By A Customer
This review is from: Table for Five [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one of those movies that is perfect for those days when you feel like a good cry. Just imagine a marathon of Penny Serenade, Terms of Endearment (when she sees her kids for the last time!) and add Table for Five to that list. Maybe it was just the mood I was in, or I am not properly medicated, but this was a terrific tearjerker. Well written, acted, and filmed, it is a great flick!

A man bridges a gap with his children...,
By
This review is from: Table for Five [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Jon Voight plays a divorced father of three, who rarely sees his kids, remembers their birthdays, and generally isn't much of a parent. The role of parent to the kids belongs to his beautiful ex-wife, played by Millie Perkins, and her current husband, a loving man played by Richard Crenna. Voight arrives to take his children on their yearly vacation together, and it turns out to be a Mediterranean cruise. During the cruise, the love he has for his kids is evident as well as the unfamiliarity he has with playing the father and putting his kids first. But when a tragedy strikes back home, Voight must decide if taking on the role of father permanently is something he can and wants to do...

A very emotional, well-acted piece of work by Jon Voight. Perhaps his best acting ever. Don't miss this one.

This review is from: Table for Five (DVD)
One of the most HUMAN films it has ever been my good fortune to watch..The entire cast just walks into your heart and sets up permanent housekeeping..Voight is so human and Roxanne Zal is the type of daughter every father would want....She must be in her 30's by now and I pray she has the sucessful career and happy life she deserves..If you want to spend time with REAL people catch this masterpiece...God Love Everyone who helped make this the heartwarming experience is most certainly is...

Worth Watching,

I grew up with this flick watching it many times and even now I cry just as much as I did when I first watched the movie many years ago. The music is beautiful and it matches the mood of it after the "tragic" accident. A scene that really pulled the emotional strings for me was the family dog silently crying lying on the ground while she was pregnant with her puppies.
If you're in a good mood for a major tear-jerker. This will definately fit the bill.

Watching this movie was the first time I realized what a great actor John Voight is. And the child actors are terrific, as well. And I almost stopped this movie about 1/4 of the way through, because it seemed sappy and slow - which IS the way it starts out - but hang in there; it really gets good. As the title probably suggests, this is not an action film, but it has a great deal of heart, and very good dialogue, acting and directing.
P.S. Just wondering what all the `suggested' tags regarding religion are doing down at the bottom of the set-up page for this review? I see `christianity, religion, jesus, faith...' there's nothing at all religious about this flick, and religion has nothing whatsoever to do with the plot.

I never tire of watching this movie. I think it is Jon Voight's finest acting part. Even greater than what he did in "Coming Home" and "Midnight Cowboy." But what is really special about this movie are the children, especially Roxanne Zal. What a lot of people do not know is that she holds the honor of being the youngest Emmy winner on primetime TV in "Something about Amelia". The scene in the movie where Jon Voight has to tell the children about the death of their mother is a scene you can never forget.

If you're the type who cries at movies be warned - you're going to need a full box of kleenex for this one.
John Voight and Richard Crenna turn in two strong performances in this very touching story of a divorced father (Voight) who is striving to re-connect with his three children who live with their mother and stepfather (Crenna) on the opposite Coast. Voight is especially good as a well-meaning but somewhat flawed character who struggles to be a Dad to his three kids. When tragedy strikes, he's forced to take a long hard look at himself and determine just how dedicated he really is to fatherhood.

I was very pleased with the replacement battery for my Nokoa 6010 cell phone. The service and price were outstanding. I will tell you later the quality of the battery as I just received. So far so good.

Although this little movie is a bit antiquated considered from an actual point of view, it is worth watching. An easy going father who never cared very much about his children living with his ex wife and her new husband has to decide how he will deal with them when the worst case occurs - the death of their mother. The characters have the chance to develop slowly and you really care about their fate. Small role for a still unknown Kevin Costner portraying a husband on his honeymoon cruise.
