I certainly don't know what the other reviewers expected...it's a T.V. Tray for Chrissake ! That said, I love this thing. First the basics: Pros: Lightweight, Very easy to adjust, Folds flat for easy storage. Cons: Ugly. Wish it came in "designer colors." A bit expensive given the materials and design...

Actually I just bought my second Tablemate II (at Bed, Bath & Beyond) after having my first one about a year. This way I can put a large art book on one and my laptop on the other and angle them accordingly for easy reference. The TMII places my laptop at the perfect angle for writing long essays and now, my dissertation. Some people here complain that it bends after heavy use, but I haven't encountered this despite setting various very heavy things on it over the course of a year. I really like it more than I thought I would (It looked pretty cheesy on T.V. and even in person at BB&B). I gave it a try and am more than satisfied. It slides up very close to me even if I am sitting in a deep chair. I tried a similar tray from Walgreens but it was super heavy and had a profile that did not allow it to be pulled in as close. Plus, the Walgreens' one was made of out pressboard coated with contact paper that looked very cheap and like it would disintegrate with the first good cleaning. Also, it would only support 15 pounds. The Tablemate II is very easy to clean, and thus, I bet it would be great for kids too. In short it works for all of my needs and I can only imagine that the other people here thought they were buying something more high-fallutin than a T.V. Tray. It is what it is. And it is a huge improvement design-wise over those trays of yore with their bad, pseudo-Fantin-Latour flower stencils and spindley, X-crossed, faux-gold-toned aluminum legs my parents had! I am in my comfy chair and using it as a support for my laptop right now as I type this !

I haven't left reviews for many products but when I saw the negative reviews for the Table Mate II I felt I had to set the record straight. I am in no way connected with the company that makes or the places that sell Table Mate. As for the negative reviews, the only thing I can figure is they're talking about Table Mate I (which I've never tried) or some other brand completely. I've had the Table Mate II for at least 2 years and use it daily for my laptop and occassionally for eating on. It certainly can be set perfectly flat. I wouldn't recommend leaning heavily on it but I rest my hands/arms on my laptop while I type all the time (like now) without a problem. It has held up superbly to my abuse. I'm extremely happy I purchased this and am planning on buying a couple more as gifts (one for my fiance who likes and really wants one like mine).

RJ Quality Products sold me TWO COPY CAT Table-Mate II's.
I had previously purchased one from Amazon and love it.
The two tables from RJ Quality Products were made from
inferior, far less sturdy materials. The legs were made
of cheap RUSTY metal and were not nearly as thick as the legs
on a real Table-Mate II. The tables would not sit level and were
not sturdy at all. Now get this, the box had a sign on it that says
"SIMILAR TO AS SEEN ON TV". Also, the real table mate II table says
the name on the back panel of the table. These imposters do not.

The Table Mate quality is much less then the commercial leads you to beleive. Very cheap and shakey construction. The clip that holds the adjustable height broke in the first week of use. You can not lean on the edge at all while eating and the top does not position flat so your plate will slide unless held. Do not buy this table. Its much easier to just take your money and toss it out the window.

This table is so helpful. I have 2 and use them all the time. It is easy to work on this table or use it for any reason. It is the table for anyone who eats in front of the tv or does any work in a chair. This table will go flat to hide under the couch or bed. I have found it very useful.

Table top was not level when assembled out of the box (on two tables). I managed to bend the legs so that the table top was level, but I was disappointed with the overall quality of the table and would not recommend it to anyone.

This tablemate is perfect for anybody.It has many uses around the house which i could list but it would take to long. It is sturdy enough to hold about 20 to 30 lbs.when the tray is at its level position. The 3 positions is a plus because it gives you more options.The one thing that is a negative is the legs do not fold down completely for storage but everything else folds down(table top and the small bar.other than the legs not folding this is a five star

My laptop is sitting on the tabletop 2. I've had it several months and no problem. It came wrapped (each piece) no scratches, dents, bends, etc. I came to Amazon to see if I could find ANOTHER ONE but for less then I paid the company that advertises on TV. Keep the elbows off the "table" when eating..it is not intended to support body weight..It is meant for plates, laptops, papers, etc..

Unfortunately there were no other reviews when I ordered this table for my 83 year old mother... the table's quality is poor and for her it is essentially unusable. I had hoped that she could use it when eating some of her meals (according to the product description) but it can't be adjusted to stand level. The plastic top is thin and was already warped when we received the table. Definitely not a good buy!
