This retro dish is a great size and an inprovement over what is generally in the stores. The cover is also a convenient holder for cranberry sauce over the holidays

I've had this piece for a two or three years.

Positive:
The dish and cover are heavy enough so it doesn't feel like it's going to splinter to pieces when I pick it up, and it can easily withstand the dishwasher.
The design is classic, which means it can be used with any casual dinnerware, but also could be used with nicer patterns.
Negative:
It's a little wider than butter dishes I've had before, which both my husband and I find awkward, especially when taking the lid on and off. This brings me to the thing that I dislike, which is that the edge of the lid has chipped (possibly because it slips out of my hand) making some nasty-sharp edges. The chipping absolutely did not happen in the dishwasher, but as I've taken it off and put it back on during regular use.

Very Nice Butter Dish, Very Heavy Glass, use it daily and it keeps the Butter in a safe clean place.

I ordered this butter dish to replace one just like it that my husband dropped the lid and broke. Love the dish for half pounds of block butter. It is not high enough to hold a full pound square of butter, but will hold 8oz of cream cheese or 1/2 pound of butter. Keeps unwanted odors out and butter tasting like butter should.

Much too big for one stick, too small for a whole pound. The angle of the shape of the lid makes it almost impossible to pick up. You need to pick it up from the bottom edges of the lid. I knew I was going to drop it, but my wife beat me to it. The lid shattered on my granite counter into a BILLION microscopic razor sharp shards. Please do not buy this unless you understand that you WILL drop the lid and/or bottom and that when you do it will be a horror show. I gave it one star because it is actually a butter dish.

We had been putting our butter on a plate since we went back to real butter. The problem was it had no cover and for months we talked about getting a butter dish, but I never remembered to look for one when I went out to purchase other things.
One night we talked about it again and I went on line to Amazon and looked for one, must haves were:
1) had to be glass
2) must be tall enough and wide enough so the butter does not hit the top of the cover or the sides.
3) Have to see through it so we can tell how much butter we have at a glance.
This butter dish met all the requirements and we LOVE it.
All of that for a simple butter dish. Ha Ha Ha

This butter dish is not tall enought. It squishes the margerine/butter down creating a great mess. I am going with the Anchor Hocking butter dish whic is 1/2 inch taller.

I use this with the deep portion on the bottom. My old butter dish was narrow and the deep portion had to go on top - often times leading me to put the lid in the butter and then having a mess to clean up. This butter dish has solved my problem of sticking the lid into the butter. Love it!

We had this exact butter dish and I accidentally broke the bottom. One thing that was unclear to me when I was trying to replace it was how big this was -- the listed dimensions confused me. In the end it turned out to be exactly the one I was looking for. This butter dish is large -- it will hold 2 normal sticks or 1 of the big european style butter blocks (which is what we use it for). It is perfect for that application.

I love this butter dish. It is a bit larger than average and best handled when grabbed with both hands. I like that I can put a stick of butter in without the lid touching the butter creating the need to wash it every time. The dish can also be turned upside down and makes a nice storage dish for small leftovers. The glass has a nice weight and has not seemed too delicate to me. It is well packaged and shipped nicely with rubber corners between the two glass pieces to prevent chipping.
