I have purchased 23 books for touring San Francisco. I live about 45 minutes away and I love to go there as much as I can. Marcia's book is the BEST book for me! It is all about the drinking and eating, not about sites and tourist traps. I would recommend that a tourist forgo the sites and dive straight into the heart of the city: it's unique dining establishments both swanky and funky/eclectic and the taverns, pubs and posh hotel bars. That is what SF is all about. I am giving this book as Christmas gifts to everyone I love -- if I can wait that long. Probably not.

The Tablehopper's Guide will guide you to not only the food and drink you are looking for but also the place to go for the experience you want. Marcia is a character, smart, irreverent,edgy, this book is a fun read with a lot of personality and enough detail to plan the perfect night out in the city by the bay. If you are a business traveler to San Francisco, Marcia's recommendations can make sure you will enjoy one of the greatest aspects of a trip to San Francisco - incredible options for eating and drinking.

While this is not as sophisticated a restaurant guide as some, it has an absolutely infectious style. You learn as much about the author as about the restaurants, and she is a charming, if sometimes eccentric, guide. While I use Zagats or Michelin as basic guides (each with their own weakness and idiosyncrasies), I always go back to Tablehopper to see what Marcia has to say. And for dinners who are looking for a particular type of experience, this book is perfect.

This little book is jam packed with great reviews and suggestions for all your dining needs in San Francisco. I love the authors witty writing style and spot on suggestions for the type of evening or meal one may be wanting to experience. ( example: meeting the parents, girls night out). Her insight into which restaurant one may want to choose for a particular occasion is amazingly accurate. Buy this book if you are going to SF, you won't regret it.

I've been a huge fan of the tablehopper newsletter for years, and was thrilled to pick up this book. It's an amazing resource for anyone looking for restaurant recommendations for just about any occasion, written with Marcia's unique voice. Very comprehensive, and I always get great advice about where to eat from this book.
