Like Violet Blue's "Sweet Life," this anthology is filled with exciting, explicit, and well-written stories. Also like that other book, this is intended for couples. Nearly every story is about a couple acting out a fantasy that one or the other had long dreamed. In some stories it's just the couple together. In many, another person takes some role in the couples' play.

Some of the fantasies get wild, the kind of things that would be very negative experiences if they happened in real life. In every story, though, it's just play and it's what both in the couple wanted. Despite that, many of these stories have a dark side that doesn't appeal to me. That's fine - there are lots of tastes in the world, and I don't need to share in them all.

If your play doesn't have to be gentle all the time, you might enjoy this collection.

Do you know what's great about this book? The title is not deceiving or misleading in the slightest. I have been let down by books with the words "erotica," and "taboo" in the titles. I enjoyed reading this short-story collection centered on couples who experiment with uninhibited, no-holds-barred sex in insatiable ways. Taboo contains stories featuring the sort of sexual scenarios that most people are often too afraid to explore. There is something for just about everyone here. Alison Tyler, Sara DeMuci, Pearl Jones, Elizabeth Colvin, Donna George Storey, and the other authors did a wonderful job with all of the delectable stories, but the one I loved the most was "Medical Attention," by Skye Black. The aforementioned story blew me away (so to speak). Violet Blue (pseudonym?) has quite an eye for selecting talented authors for erotic collections. I look forward to reading Sweet Life, another erotic collection for adventurous couples by the aforementioned editor. In the meantime, I recommend this one most highly.

Imaginative! May 16, 2004

Format:Paperback
This anthology crosses the board of sexual fantasies! Violet Blue has brought together a fantastic selection of well-written, steamy, and wildly imaginative exchanges between couples devoted to each other and exploring their sexuality in a safe, yet stimulating, approach. I'm always looking for ways to be creative and experimental in my own marriage and fantasy plays a big part in that. There are no limits in Taboo so it presents a wide range of possibilities. Although I may not be brave enough to carry out some of the situations the writers have set up for their characters, they certainly set the mood, arouse the libido, and raise the question, "What if?". I'd love to cruise the streets of L.A. for an encounter with a James Dean look-alike and perhaps find out something new about both myself and my husband as in "James Dean, One Thousand Bucks, and a Long Summer Night". I feel especially inclined now to set up the video camera for candid documentation of play for a powerful, rich man in a silk dressing gown willing to pay thousands for an genuine recording of "La Petite Mort" like Brian and Kira in "Picture Perfect". I am also motivated to pull out all that dirty laundry I've been neglecting and visit the realm of cross-dressing as in "Alice" or what it means to be REALLY dirty as Elsa does in "Watch and Learn". "DO try this at home" is excellent advice for everyone, even if you are unwilling to take it to the streets for a good spanking like in Alison Tyler's "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Taboo lives up to its name and covers subject material that is shocking, yet undeniably exciting. I highly recommend it. It is VERY entertaining, as well as inspiring, if you know what I mean.
