"I love Jess Michaels",
By pen pen (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews

This was really enjoyable. Hot, Hot, steaming sex scenes. I like how the plot of this story maintained centering strickly around the hero and heroine. Nathan (hero) is a sexy character and amazing in bed. But I love how the story really shows his love for the heroine. Cassandra(heroine) is no amature in bed...However, the hero was her first love and there is not a whole lot of cat and mouse chase between the two. When they get together "It's on and Poppin". I love how JM bring these two together after being away from each other so long. This is a fast read. I read it cover to cover non-stop.

I enjoyed this one!,

I did not expect too much from this book...but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was this book an erotic novel...but it actually had a story which was engaging and to me emotionally tugging. I enjoyed the interaction between Nathan and Cassandra the sexual tension jumped out at you on each page...you felt it and not just read about it.
Cassandra was a very well written heroine, I enjoyed learning about her and what caused her to make the decisions she did pertaining to her life; Nathan needed a bit more depth as the hero, to me he was just one dimensional and kept rehashing the past trying to find out why she did not show up to marry him...and even calling her a liar as he continued to seek her out and sleep with her. I wished the book was a bit longer, but it moved along nicely and the scenes were not too drawn out. The ending was endearing and sweet, and I was glad that Nathan finally got a clue and did the right thing by her.

I agree with the reviewer who states that there is not enough plot. The story was lacking some depth. Sex is great but you need a deeper story to carry it off otherwise it gets boring.

I had very high hopes for this book. While I wasn't disappointed, I shouldn't have set my standards so high just because of a pretty cover. The gorgeous cover is what intrigued me and I literally couldn't stop myself from buying it. I didn't know it was part of a series so I am making my way through the rest of the series. I do and don't understand why she labels this as 2.5 in the series. I don't because the story has nothing to do with the Albrecht sisters. I do because it is about a character introduce in the first novel ofthe series (despite the small role she does play.)
The rundown: boy and girl fall in love despite being in different classes of society. Because society would never accept their relationships, someone meddles, breaking them apart. One turns into a whore while the other turns into a crybaby and runs to another country. Said crybaby returns and, because he cannot get his once lover out of his head, he blackmails her into becoming his whore. Eventually, the truth comes out and the couple lives happily ever after. Despite the uncreative plot, I really enjoyed this book. The erotic scenes were great except for an anal scene that just wasn't my taste. Despite that, they were expertly written. The only thing that actually bothered me was the fact that the female protagonist became a whore for the ton so that sex wouldn't be ruined for her. It was a major "Wtf?" moment and I almost threw the book across the room, especially since Michaels like to repeatedly bring this point up. Overall, a pleasing erotic novel.

I highly recommend Jess Michaels series of erotic novels. There is real character & plot development and the sex scenes are truly steamy. The heroines are all unique and have independent natures regardless of the less than liberating circumstances of their cultural time period, and or specific story lines. But perhaps most importantly, the main characters do have "chemistry" and the author succeeds at both eroticism & true romance. Well done!

This is the story of two people from different classes who fall in love but are torn apart until years later when they meet again in London. He decides that he should blackmail her for leaving him all those years ago . ¾ of the book felt like `how to book' instead of a novel - interesting but not the quality I expect from this author. The last of the book you started to understand where the characters came from and the initial love they shared. I felt if she would have added a few more pages of content - it would have been another winner. Over all - I might wait to read a few more review before I buy this author again at full price.
This author also writes as Jenna Petersen. If you enjoy this genre I would so suggest; Her Notorious Viscount, Everything Forbidden (Avon Red)and What the Duke Desires (Billingham Bastards 1) due out October 27, 2009.

Hello all,
I just finished re reading 'Taboo' and wanted to share how much I enjoy it. I am sure most of you are serial romance readers like me, and will understand how great it is to find a gem that you can keep going back to. I will not rehash the plot, but just say what was it I liked about 'Taboo'. One of my favorite romance plot devices- which can get missued pretty badly- is a couple that have a past and we get to see them falling in love again. Now Michaels uses the 'misunderstanding' plot device which can get annoying, but it was done in a way that you don't get the need to pull out your hair. Cassandra is now a woman- and I think many women can relate to her. She is not a simpering girl and she acts like a mature lady somethink I appreciate. Now I know some had a problem with Nathan in the beginning, but when you reread the book as much as I do, (lol) I think you get to see how always - even from the very first moment he sees her- he still loves her but is trying to hide it. The story shows them finding their way back into each others hearts while having good times between the sheets :)

This is my first Jess Michaels book. The story was only OK. I found the "hero", Nathan especially annoying. Yes, he was young and had his heart broken but after moving halfway around the world and becoming a Man, his pettiness regarding Cassandra and intent for revenge was too juvenile to believe he had matured.
However, my biggest problem with the book is the very poor writing and editing. Examples: describing a kiss, "his lips over his mouth", "let her breath out in a shuttering sigh", clumsy sentence constructions, poor grammar, same word twice in one short sentence. UGH! I'm no parochial school grammarian but it was distractingly bad. There are many, many books out there for fun, fantasy, pleasure, and just plain reading to have to put up with this level of carelessness.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jess Michaels latest work. While some of her early short stories are not terribley well developed her latest books are HOT HOT HOT!!! Her men are totally alpha dom, the story lines are interesting and seamless. I <3 that the women in Jess's novels arent wilting panseys but real characters with thoughtful, realistic struggles. It really kills a storyline when the man snaps his fingers and the women fall at their feet...I like my characters to WORK for it!
I highly recommend despite the high price!!

super erotic historical romance,
This review is from: Taboo (Paperback)
Cassandra Willows was to secretly meet Lord Nathan Manning for a tryst that both looked forward to. However, she failed to show up disappointing the aristocrat. Hurt to his core, soon afterward he left for India without knowing why she rejected him after seeming so agreeable.
Years later, the Earl has returned home to England while Cass has become in among the wealthy for her sexy scintillating garments that the aristocrats buy for their mistresses. Meanwhile Nathan seeks a wife and subsequently an heir, but it is Cassandra he wants and Cass he will have. Whatever reason she had for denying them then, he will overcome using every trick in the book and a TABOO or two that are outside the lovers' tome. This erotic historical romance is an engaging tale due to the lead protagonists. Nathan knows he must marry a suitable lady to sire and heir and a spare, but he only desires Cass. She has found a way to economically survive without a male protector, but never forgot the one that got away. Interestingly the prodigal son seems cold and aloof upon his return, but Cass heats his blood rather quickly as each wants SOMETHING RECKLESS tasting EVERYTHING FORBIDDEN in their love for one another.
