In the latest collection of his erotic short stories, Sean Wolfe uses the theme of "taboos," explaining in the introduction that, as gay men, we are used to being regarded as such by many heterosexuals, so we may embrace further taboos as a simple extension of being outsiders of sorts. The book is divided into four geographical sections, tied together by a continuing narrative featuring Chance, a young man traveling from his current home in San Francisco back to his folks' house in New York, having been summoned by his homophobic mother who wants him there due to the impending death of his father. Along the way, he finds sexual diversions through a myriad of one-night stands and fantasy stereotypes. Each section also contains several other short stories, featuring other characters engaged in sexual relationships with religious hypocrites, a sibling, a willing hypnosis subject, his teenage student, his rapist and, in one case, his deceased lover who inexplicably manages to return to his bed late each evening.

Mr. Wolfe is known for his erotic stories, and these are no less hot than his previous anthologies, but mostly lacking any semblance of a real plot beyond the obvious and predictable. Even the longer, continuing story of Chance, the guy driving back to his folks home back East, is very uneven, with the final resolution of the reason for his trip (on a subject that most readers could likely identify with) quite unsatisfying. In a nutshell, if you're looking for hot content in a variety of offbeat stories, this book is for you. If not, maybe no so much. I'll give it three shooting stars out of five.
