The patented TacStar Sidesaddle mounts 6 extra rounds on your shotgun in a convenient and accessible location for fast reloading. The tough, weatherproof shell carrier is attached to an aluminum mounting plate that installs directly on the shotgun receiver. All mounting screws are included, no gunsmithing required. Installation is easy, and in most cases requires no alterations to the shotgun. Note: some field grade shotguns may require a modification to the shotgun's forend. Shotguns using the TacStar pistol grip forend do not require modification. 12 Gauge only.

I just installed one on my Remington 870 Express Magnum (SYN FORE END 18" BBL. 12 GA. 2 SHOT EXTENSION CYL BORE BEAD SIGHT BUTLER CREEK FS-REM PISTOL GRIP/FOLDING STOCK) and it fit perfectly. NO MODIFICATIONS NEEDED! Online research had indicated that I'd probably need to modify the forend (it extends EXACTLY 1/4 inch beyond the leading edge of the receiver) but that was totally unneccesary. It bolted right up and fits just fine, with 1/2 inch additional forend travel to boot! With an extra six receiver-mounted shells now added to the ten already on the sling, the three already in the stock, the six already in the tube and the one in the pipe, I'm good to go. If something goes bump in the night I just grab my boomstick and I'm ready to rock and roll with twenty-six rounds on tap without having to fumble around in the dark looking for a box of shells. Overkill? Oh yah, you BETCHA, but brother, nothing exceeds like excess!

I was looking for a Side Saddle to go on my Remington 870. I was choosing between this one and the Mesa Tactical Side Saddle (Not on Amazon). I went with this one originally because it was about $30 cheaper than the Mesa product.
First impressions were ok. The backplate is metal, but the actual shell holders are plastic, and I questioned their longterm durability. Secondly, if this were to be an actual tactical piece, I can see the open slots of the shell holders getting snagged on clothes and other things as they are open.
The saddle comes with 2 screws. You pop the push pins out of the 870, and replace them with the screws, allowing you to screw the saddle on the side of the gun. This is what lost me on this product. When you mount it, the saddle does not set totally flush with the side of the gun. It is flush on the back where the screws are, and as it goes towards the barrel, it bows off the receiver slightly. To me, that was a deal breaker (to you, maybe not so much).
Return the product, excellent customer service, no complaints there!
I went with the Mesa Product and I am much more pleased. It its solid metal, closed holders, and it sits flush on the gun.
I give the product 3 stars, it does what is advertised, I was jus not satisfied overall.

Amazon Verified Purchase
I like how this product comes with all of the tools needed to install it. The only missing is the thread-lok. Installing this takes about two minutes, and there's no confusion and nothing to make you nervous about installing this yourself. The clips hold on to the shot shells very well, even when put in upside down. There's absolutely no chance of any shells falling out on their own.

Easy install very durable
