I have to admit I was more than a bit skeptical about the NcStar ultimate sighting system. Espcailly after reading some other on line reviews. Reviews of the product tend to be polar opposites. I'll make this simple and to the point:

PROS:
-Easy quick release system
-Looks great on an AR
-Unique scope with Red Dot attachment
-Clear scope

CONS:
-Heavy
-Reticle is too thick; great for shooting large targets at 50 yards, 100 yards is a struggle to hit bull
-Couldn't get red dot zeroed at all; lots...

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected Optics system. Proper ajustments are nessesary, but easy., June 25, 2010
This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
I have to admit I was more than a bit skeptical about the NcStar ultimate sighting system. Espcailly after reading some other on line reviews. Reviews of the product tend to be polar opposites. Either folks like it or hate it...not much in between. So, before ordering I called NcStar directly to see how difficult it is to get a person on the phone...I'm happy to report that my call was promptly answered by a human and I was connected to a Tech Support Rep who was extremely knowledgeable and assured me that if anything wasn't up to my standards they would repair, replace or refund my money, no questions asked. So I purchased the system knowing full well that it's NOT an ACOG. But at 1/10th the price I think it's a pretty good optics package. First and foremost - the scope works as advertised. The Mark III optics quality is really quite good. The mil dot recital is sharp and crisp. Overall the Mark III is easily on par with some much more expensive scopes. My favorite feature is the quick release system. It works really well (once properly adjusted - more on that later). After mounting on my flat top Stag Model 8, I sighted the scope at 100 yards. After getting a good zero, I was shooting one and ¾ inch groups. I dismounted the scope repositioned and it held its' zero just fine. My only "very small" complaint is, to adjust elevation; you have to unscrew the cap to access the internal adjustment, since turning the knob only actuates the bullet drop compensator. Not a big deal. Now it's zeroed, I don't expect I'll take the cap off again. The internal illumination also works as advertised. It's nice but really unnecessary. The scope pulls in plenty of light without turning on the illumination. I don't see using the feature much if any. Eye relief is advertised to be 3 inches. I found that 2 inches was what I was getting. Not great but still adequate. I experimented moving the scope back and forth on the rail until I found a comfortable "sweet spot" and shooting position. As for the second half of the system, The red dot, which mounts to the scope, I'd rate it fair to good and that's why I give the "system" 4 stars instead of 5. I sighted it in for 25 yards and it works well, but the dot is not as crisp as I'd like and the optics opening is a bit small...Even so, it is still quite functional for getting the rifle quickly pointed at a silhouette sized target.

Since the Mark III has been bashed for hardware not being secure in other reviews I was interested to see if I had any similar issues. The answer is YES. Some of the mounting screws needed to be tightened. Not a big deal at all. A couple of Allen wrenches and some purple loctite and all the hardware is perfectly secure and won't back off. In conjunction with tightening everything down correctly, I also properly adjusted the quick release system for my rail and the weaver rings for the red dot. I suppose the factory could do a better job with the hardware, but I would spend the time tweaking to match my system anyway. With 5 minutes of my time, the mounting hardware and quick release system worked as advertised.

Overall I'd give the scope 5 stars and the red dot 3 ½. Would I drop it from the turret of a MRAP and expect it come out unscathed?...No probably not. But for $180 bucks I really am impressed and think the NcStar Ultimate Sighting System is an extremely good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't be beat for the price., January 19, 2011

This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
I'm not much for writing reviews, but after reading so many mixed reviews on NcStar products, I felt the need to share my views. The MK III P4 Scope and Red Dot package is the first scope I have purchased from NcStar. Having already purchased some flashlights and other products from NcStar and being very satisfied, I decided to give it a shot. I've been shopping with Amazon for years, and had full faith that if this product did not satisfy me, they would work to make it right. Luckily, I didn't have to rely on that, as this product is exactly what I was hoping for. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I'm sick of reading bad reviews for products that have no consideration for cost. I rate products based on the quality of the item vs. the price. Keep in mind that this is NOT a $1000 ACOG, and the consumer would be foolish to expect that. For the price, this piece can not be beat.
The scope arrived a day early, in perfect packaging. It came with 2 spare batteries and an allen key for adjusting. The scope comes with strapped lens covers, and the red dot sight has a plastic cap which covers the entire assembly. The scope has some weight to it, much more solid than I had expected. It is all metal construction, and the quick release mount appears to be machined very tightly, which had led to a solid, secure fit on the rail. I had read some other reviews about the reticles being off-axis. This is not the case with my scope. The crosshairs are aligned perfectly. The switch for the illuminated reticle clicks positively and has a good solid feel to it. Both the red and green lights work properly on all three brightness settings. Optics appear to be of good quality at any range. The focus adjustment is smooth and tight, and the clarity of the image is better than I expected. Both the elevation and windage adjustments have a good solid click. This scope was out of the box, mounted and bore sighted within 10 minutes.
The Red Dot sight came mounted on the scope. The optics are sharp, the dot is crisp. The red dot sight was less impressive than the scope, but still right for the price. The switch for the sight is a very small sliding toggle. While the switch has a good, positve contact feel, the lever seems undersized for the amount of protrusion. In other words, it feels too thin and sticks out to far. While this makes it easy to switch on and off, it feels like a heavy thumb or minor bump on the switch would break it off. There was one other problem with the red dot out of the box, which was easily taken care of. The elevation of the dot was so far off it could not be adjusted enough. I mean way off- the dot was about 10 feet off bore sight at 25 yards. This was fixed simply by removing the sight and reseating the ring. After putting about 10 rounds down range and adjusting, I was driving tacks at 50 yards. After about 200 rounds, the scope is still holding dead center, and all of the illumination features are still working perfectly. All in all, I could not be happier with this purchase. I would buy another in a heartbeat, and would reccommend it to any shooter looking for an economical aiming solution. On a side note, for this price, you cant go wrong. As I said earlier, I have full faith that Amazon would make right any problem you might have with your purchase. I would be happy to answer any questions about this product that I can in the comments section.

5.0 out of 5 stars get one !, January 9, 2011
This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
Got this for my Rock River Arms M4 and glad I did! This is a very sweet scope! I love it. Mounted it on a short riser and it looks great on the weapon and function is fantastic. Quite heavy for what I expected. Bore laser sighted it first then used a Marine sighting target and zeroed it in with about 10 rounds. Love the sniper reticle! I have had it a few months with no problems and I shoot a lot. I shoot mostly 62gr 5.56 and the drop compensator works just fine with them at 200 yds. NC Star seems to make some very fine accessories these days.
The dealer shipped it very fast and it was very well packed.

I'll make this simple and to the point:

PROS:
-Easy quick release system
-Looks great on an AR
-Unique scope with Red Dot attachment
-Clear scope

CONS:
-Heavy
-Reticle is too thick; great for shooting large targets at 50 yards, 100 yards is a struggle to hit bull
-Couldn't get red dot zeroed at all; lots of sunburst in lower light and eye relief is bad
-No point to illuminated reticle
-No point to BDC as you won't be able to see your target past 100 yards, plus the fat reticle will cover the target

Final notes: This is good entry level scope, but avid shooters will want something better. Do yourself a favor and pick up a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 for under $200 and be happier. I sold mine after 3 months of ownership.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sniper Scope is nice...Red Dot is Garbage, June 15, 2011

This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
Put the scope on my AK47 WASR 10

I give the sniper scoped 5 stars for price, accuracy, and ease of use. Only ding i have for the sniper is the eye relief. Could be better but that's picky. I give the red dot 2 stars because its worthless if its sunny, i cant figure out how to bore sight it (the left right screw only allows me to turn it right?),its not super easy to acquire quickly, and i have used other red dots that were just nicer at the same price. im going to go to the range again with the intent to figure out the red dot. Pray for me.

Received scope 2 days earlier than i thought. Opened perfectly packed scope and was very happy with the quality of product out of the box. red dot is crisp and scope is better than i could have hoped for. Put 100 rounds out of my Ar15 and had no issues . Veryyy happy with this unit and for the price can not beat it. Amazon was awesome once again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent scope, red dot will not zero without shims., October 8, 2011

This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
Ordered combo on a Friday morning, received the next day, very impressed with how quickly Amazon shipped item. Mounted scope on my S&W M&P 15 22LR, no issues with mounting, a little tightening of a few hex bolts and done. Bore sighted scope at 30 yards, (Indoor range max) attempted to sight red dot at 10 yards, couldn't get it on paper at all, dot was at least a foot off target no matter how much I tried to adjust it. I will attempt to try and "shim" red dot, but it looks kind of flimsy.
The scope worked GREAT, at 30 yards I kept my groups of 10 around 1", the red and green do not work very well indoors in lower light but when I was outside testing scope at longer distances the red and green looked pretty cool. I rated as a 3 because of the red dot not even coming close to being on paper, the scope I would easily rate a 4 star, especially for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sniper Scope, August 1, 2011

The scope would have gotten 5 stars except for the crappy red dot sitting on top. It is poorly made and very hard to adjust. The scope itself not only looks cool it functions just fine, the quick mount does hold 0 when taken of and reinstalled (verified with a laser bore sight).

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor scope, unusable red dot., January 21, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
The Scope:
The scope would get very blurry after zooming in 3/5 the way. That by itself is a deal breaker. Also, when using the green reticle illumination there was a large, green glare/reflection obstructing most of the view, even at the lowest brightness. Not a huge problem, such a glare didn't occur when using the red illumination, but annoying nonetheless.

The Red dot:
Possibly the worst reflex-style red dot I've seen. The laser was pointing so far upward that the adjustment screws couldn't bring it anywhere near proper alignment. The dot also had a fair amount of bloom. I toke the unit apart and inserted some paper shims behind the laser's circuit board in a vain attempt to point the laser more downward (inserting metal shims anywhere else wouldn't have helped at all). Doing so did bring the laser into better alignment, but then the dot on the sight became very dim, so out came the shims. Also, the unit had a poor electrical connection somewhere, it would only turn on half the time when fully assembled.

I wish I could comment on how well the scope adjusted or held zero, but I never got that far. Too many problems in one package. Product returned for a refund. I'm going to avoid NcStar like the plague from now on.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT for the money!!, October 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mark III Tactical P4 Sniper 3-9X42/Scope Adaptor Mount/Red Dot Combo Package (Sports)
I've purchased this as my 2nd NC Star tactical red-dot. I was at first a little diappointed with the first one, because I couldn't get a logical/legitimate sight picture with the holographic, that is until I talked with a SF friend that uses this type of scope regularly. The holographic sits too high to get a good position on the butt stock, and it just won't acquire the target at a good point in the field of view. Here's the solution.......Rotate the holographic sight 45 degrees to the right (left, if a left handed shooter) to enable the rifle to fit the cheek weld on long-range shooting, and rock the rifle 45 degrees to the left (right if shooting left handed) and acquire the short-range target (<30 yards) in the holographic. This is a great quality scope, and I've in-fact recommended it to several of my shooter friends.
