Not as good as I expected,

This review is from: Taekwondo: Sparring Strategies for the Ring and the Street (Paperback)
When I bought this book, I was looking forward to reading stradagies on how to make my sparring better. I am currently a 1st degree black belt. I like to watch Sparring competition, and I also like to compete. But I wanted to make it better. When I saw this book, I thought that it would give you some good tips. As I went through it, I only found out that it did have some things to help you. But the things were for beginners. All of the advice they gave you was just common sense. This book did not in any way help me in my Sparring training. But, I do reccomend this book for those who have just began Sparring. The book does have good pictures. And gives you a workout plan that you could use.

As most books on this subject it turns out to be covering a lot of things that you already knew. I am especially wondering why all of these books cover basic warm up exersices... since all the Taekwon-Do Schools i have ever visited already use them. Honestly there has to be better things to do with these pages.I still found the book informativ, but its atempt to cover both WTF sparring and street self defense flunked completely. The three stars that i am giving this book is for the text wich is in most part very good, and the parts that deal with footwork, and strategy. Either you know most of what this book says, or you know to little to understand it.

I am a purple belt TKD student, so I found this book very helpful. It rounded out my understanding of sparring techniques and tactics. Also good for reviewing basic techniques.

Hi my name is Jill Daniels and I am 2nd Degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo. Since I've started using Mr.Gibson's book on sparring I've won three black belt tournements. His concept on footwork for utilizing the stopping sidekick and other counter-kicks has completely changed the way I spar. I no longer feel helpless when things get rough. His section on how to set-up your opponent with combination kicks with the lead-leg is also incredible. I would highly recommend this book for Advanced competitors and beginners because it is so clearly described in detail with text and pictures. I hope he makes more books on Taekwondo Sparring.

This book is painfully simple covering only common sense issues. This book is will be redundant for anyone who has studied the martial artts for more than a month.
