A rich and compact Tagalog-English-Tagalog dictionary,
By
This review is from: Tagalog-English, English-Tagalog (Pilipino) Dictionary : A Language of the Philippines (Paperback)
I have the classic Tagalog-English dictionaries: José V. PANGANIBAN's (1972), Vito C. SANTOS's (1978), Leo J. ENGLISH's (1986). Of course this dictionary cannot compare with them, but it is the best value for money. It even contains words that are not entered in the classics. It is umpteen notches above the other "small" dictionaries - most of them being worthless. I am so satisfied with Rubino's Tagalog-English-Tagalog dictionary that I'll buy a second copy to be used when travelling in the Philippines.

Excellent - best Tagalog book,

This is the best Tagalog dictionary-- much better that all the other ones I have. I even enjoyed the grammar section. I didn't know how complex Tagalog was until I read the grammatical introduction which is complete. It is surprising to also see slang terms and expressions included. I wish they had a dictionary this good for my native language, Waray Waray. This would be a great book for all Filipinos wanting to learn or remember their national language

This is THE most comprehensive two-way Tagalog & English dictionary I've seen! Not only does provide the equivalent of a word in one language, but it also gives the origin; whether it's from Chinese, Spanish, English, etc. The dictionary also has a brief section about pronunciation and grammar. There's even an Alibata (pre-hispanic syllabary) chart! I highly recommend this book to anyone.

I bought this book when I started to date my Filipino boyfriend so that I could learn some of his language. It is excellent! If there was ever a word one of us couldn't translate, we whipped out this book and it was in there 99 percent of the time. I have three other Tagalog dictionaries as well as language tapes and this one is by far the best. The definitions are easy to understand and there are even slang words included. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a Tagalog dictionary. I even bought a second copy for a friend.
