If this book were in the humor section rather than cooking I would give it three more stars as each page is a "Where's Waldo" of editing errors and bad formatting. My wife and I had a great time laughing at everything we found wrong (which is why I think it warrants two stars as a novelty). Some examples of what's wrong with this book: The pronunciation guide for tagine in the beginning lacks the appropriate fonts so most of the letters show up as square block, none of the recipes use consistent units or structure for ingredients, one recipe is written completely in French, another is formatted as two columns (ingredients on the left instructions on the right) unlike all other recipes, the index includes no accurate page references but does include things like "tsp" in case you were wondering where all the tsp measurements were (but the pages are all off so you wouldn't be able to find them anyways).

I could go on and on, but the short of it is that it looks like someone kept a word document of recipes as a hobby, used some of the automatic features to generate a table of contents and index, copied some text from wikipedia for an introduction, then published it as a book without bothering to proofread any of the content.

If, like me, you are a fan of B movies, and have a soft spot for things that are done so poorly they become strange gems in their own awkward way, you'll get a kick out of this recipe book (but you may want to pick up the 2nd edition which seems to suffer from the same inattention to detail).

If you're looking for a polished recipe book, do not get this (or the 2nd edition).
