I used these tablets back in 1996-1998 while traveling through rural East Africa. (Cape Town to Cairo) My buddy (israeli) had them. At the time, they were the best tablets available if used as directed on package. Other travelers were using iodine and chlorine tablets and were getting cramps from killing all their internal flora. I traveled through some hardcore areas with zero sanitation and never got sick...from drinking water anyway! And my digestion was never comprised which is important when nutrition is scarce. Use with confidence.

This product is exactly as described. I had read the directions wrong and left an incorrect review before. The seller called me and politely notified me that i had read the directions wrong! oops! For everyday creek water it requires just one tablet to purify. Great product, great business practice, great value!

I was wrong--this is not a chlorine dioxide product, it is good old-fashioned chlorine, as chlorinated cyanuric acid. I don't know how I got confused, but I apologize.

Chlorine is a traditional water sanitizer and it's pretty effective if the water is reasonably clear. However, it does't kill lamblia giardia reliably, and chlorine dioxide does, so chlorine dioxide is preferable. This formulation is less toxic and less corrosive than many of the competing compounds, but I have no reason to believe that it is superior in killing germs. Although the instructions state that it works in cloudy water, that is generally a bad idea--clarify the water first.

An unusual feature of the Taharmayim product is that it fizzes, which will help stir the chlorine throughout the water container. Competing products generally need to be shaken.

Whenever I go into the mountains I have a few of these in my pack. I recently came across a woman injured from a fall on a hot summer day. Since her son had already gone for help, I stayed with her.

It was almost 100 degrees, so I gave her my water. Since I didn't want to drink straight from the nearby stream, I dropped one of these pills in my canteen and then filled it with stream water.

My point is you never know when, or why, you might need these. Keep a few around, just in case.

These are perfect for a Survival Kit. Box contains 5 foil sheets of 10 tablets each. Either cut apart or keep as is. They take up VERY little room. The tablets are only about 3/16" in diameter. 1 tablet treats 1 liter of clear pond or stream water.

Simple and easy to use. These were highly recommended by a friend who was very skilled and knowledgeable in survival. These have a long shelf life and will protect you for nearly all none metal particles.

Nifty tabs! Love these tablets, though haven't tested them in the field, Put a tab in a quart of water and drank it with no ill effects and no nasty flavor! Yay! I can't abide the flavor of iodine tablets plus can't use them anymore for health reasons, so these are just great to have for anything from backpacking to racing around in the wilderness, or for potential emergencies (flood, fire, famine, oh my!). And as a bonus I feel like such a hipster having this little box with Hebrew writing all over it that I don't understand but it looks totally cool and ethnic! Ha! (Yes, kidding...)
