Nice kayak, I am liking it - it is sleek, and fast. Let me qualify that by stating that I am a 192 lb 5'11" guy, and I paddle it like I stole it averaging just under 5MPH on an hour long tour through flatwater lakes that have many narrows with wind, and at times areas with 3 - 4 foot chop from skiiers and tubers. Plenty fast enough to keep up with my friends in their longer composite yaks. Love the skeg, and reserve the rudder for those times when I am facing a strong quartering wind with light chop. After having the option of using skeg, rudder or 'none', I would be hard pressed to go back to a yak with just a rudder, and cannot imagine buying one without either. Initial stability is good, with a very slight tippy feeling I understand is associated with most fast hulls. If there is secondary stability I have not found it yet. Fit and finish is very good, although instructions are lacking for installation of the rudder - it took me a while to realize that the rudder is spring loaded allowing deployment or stowing through a single pull string. Hint - install the rudder in the downward position. Mine did not come with the black mesh bag shown forward of the cockpit in the picture, and I am working with Amazon customer service to get one delivered. Low marks for seating - the seat bottom is not adjustable up or down, forward or back. A back band is included, which can be adjusted forwards and backwards, and adjusting the seat is a 10 - 15 minute chore requiring removal of nylock nut and washer on the blind side of the support (use a 1/2 wrench). The back band does not allow for adjusting height or angle, without drilling additional holes in the plastic.Read more ›
