We are joining friends on a sailboat in Tahiti and wanted a good guide to the area. We ordered this book because the Amazon reviews seemed to show it the most complete and timely. When we first received the book and opened it, our first reaction was shock. We were going to send it back. Despite a great front and back cover, there was not one picture in the book! Let me correct that, there are seven pages of colored pictures in the front of the book, otherwise, get ready for 600 pages of pure text. There must have been complaints about no pictures in earlier editions because on the cover it says "New Color Photo Spread!" Don't let it fool you. We were used to the DK Eyewitness Travel books which are saturated with color pictures throughout the book of the places being discussed. The difference between their books and this Open Road travel guide as far as an interesting presentation is night and day. Unfortunately we couldn't find a DK book on Tahiti or French Polynesia. But I will say, after reading this Open Road book, it is indeed packed with facts and information, much only know by an insider, but be prepared for a few black and white maps dispursed within page after page of black and white text.

Jan Prince really knows French Polynesia. She has lived and traveled there and it shows. Her descriptions of the resorts and restaurants is far beyond that which you find in most travel books; much more detailed and personal. However, I have the previous edition and felt it actually contained much more information (indeed it was a larger book). Still, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this for anyone thinking of traveling to French Polynesia. It's great for both planning your trip and using while there.

A great book written by a local with all the insights and information. Still the best book out there on French Polynesia. Information does change quickly but it still gives you an idea of what to expect and where the best places are. Worth the purchase if you are going to French Polynesia and spending thousands on the trip.

Jan Prince is the best! She know everything about Tahiti and her islands. And she shares it all with us. I have been to Tahiti 56 times, still look things up in her guide.

This book was very helpful to me in planning our trip to Tahiti. It has alot of useful information in it and it lists web sites for everything you could need to look up. The only problem I had was figuring out the exchange rate. It was also very easy to read and understand.

Jan Prince has done it again! I am a travel agent who specializes in the South Pacific and I love how she is 'travel friendly.' :) This book is pretty up to date. Hotel chains are constantly being bought out in the South Pacific so it is hard to keep these up to date I'm sure. The only thing I noticed is the Bora Bora Nui is no longer owned by Starwood but is now Hilton Bora Bora Nui. Excellent book with bright, colorful pictures to match! Highly recommend this!

Great guide book. Tons of very good information. Helped me a lot! Recommend it highly especially for someone planning to do a land vacation on any of these islands. We are using it as a guide to help us decide what to do and where to go while we are in ports on our French Polynesia cruise vacation.

The title says it all...it's a great guide and reference book for French Polynesia. Gave us great tips and ideas of what to do on each of the many islands.
