Book Description

February 7, 2003
Tahiti Report 2003 is a completely updated guide to "the Island of Love" and its sister island, Moorea; the Bali Hai of the South Pacific. Some of the highlights: Kilometer by kilometer tours around both islands. Latest information on cruise ships to the outer islands, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, sports, and helicopter trips. An exciting tour by 4x4 through the jungles of Tahiti's interior.A list of luxury resorts, budget and dormitory accommodations. Calendar of events for 2003. Weird tales of tikis that kill when moved. Sex and the Tahitian vahine past and present. Flying saucers that use caves in the hills for their hangers. A list of things to do on these fascinating islands. Entertaining reading, too, for the armchair traveler.

About the Author

Austin Peterson is a TV-radio writer/producer who has worked for Young and Rubicam, Ted Bates, ABC TV, NBC Radio, the Advertising Council, and Family Theater Productions. During World War II he served as a major and as Head of Production for the Armed Forces Radio Service. In 1944, he visited all the AFRS stations in the Pacific: Honolulu, Johnston Island, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Saipan, Guam, Tinian, Leyte, Manila (arrived there by mistake while there were still 15,000 Japanese behind the wall), Lingayan Gulf, Palau, Biak, the Admiralties, Guadalcanal, Espiritu Santo, New Guinea, and New Caledonia. That four-month trip whetted his appetite for travel and in 1960 he started writing travel guides for Pan Am on Tahiti and Her islands, Fiji, American and Western Samoa, and the Manu a Islands. Tahiti Report 2003 is his third book on Tahiti in the past three years.

1.0 out of 5 stars This was a complete waste of time, September 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tahiti Report 2003: An Intimate Tour Around Tahiti and Moorea (Paperback)
This book was a complete waste of time and money. It appears to be a vanity book - this guy wrote about some stuff that interested him and then paid to have the book published. There are typos galore - a completely unprofessional job by the publisher.

1.0 out of 5 stars A little bit better than worthless., September 17, 2009

Edward H Blair "Carolina" (Lenoir, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tahiti Report 2003: An Intimate Tour Around Tahiti and Moorea (Paperback)
This guide book contained some helpful information about Moorea & Tahiti, but not much. It's rambling and not well-organized, with numerous typos which make it appear to be not well prepared or thought out. It seems dated.
