T'ai Chi for Everyone offers a workout that is worlds away from Tae-Bo, aerobics, and even power yoga. Veteran tai chi chi kung instructor Csongor Daniel demonstrates a fluid tai chi routine, leads a thorough warm-up session, and then teaches the 18 basic movements of tai chi. Exercises such as Rowing a Boat on the Lake and Turning to Look at the Moon loosen joints, warm muscles, and impose a deep calm on practitioners. The production has rough edges and an amateur feel to it, but the background music conjures the appropriate ambiance, and Daniel's technique can't be faulted. The one thing this tape doesn't offer is an actual tai chi routine--one of the best things about the art is its flow from one movement to another. --Jhana Bach

Product Description

This 72 minutes long, professional quality instructional video is one of a kind. It was developed for the absolute beginner, providing detailed explanation on each of the 18 movements of T'ai Chi Chi Kung, with front and back views for convenience.

T'ai Chi Chi Kung (Taiji Qigong) consists of stationary exercises that anyone can easily master. It doesn't require any special equipment or uniform, and you can do it anywhere and anytime. Daily practice takes as little as 30 minutes, and every muscle and joint of your body will be moved by the time you are finished. The movements are light and soft with the emphasis on breathing. T'ai Chi Chi Kung students learn how to develop a better posture, control or even abolish their pain and feel much better about themselves.

This work is a unique, western approach to T'ai Chi Chi Kung, putting the importance on the internal energy (Chi) and the therapeutic value of these very special exercises. Recommended to anyone from three to 103!

Csongor Daniel, author of BIOTHERAPY - A Healing for the 21st Century, has been practicing T'ai Chi for more than twelve years and teaching the same since 1993. His work in the realm of human energy fields is strongly reflected in this video.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Tai Chi Chi Kung, April 9, 2001

This review is from: T'ai Chi for Everyone : The 18 Steps of T'ai Chi Chi Kung [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I own a large selection of Tai Chi and Qigong videos. This is by far the worst. Daniel has thought of some movements that have an "oriental" feel to them and has named them "Tai Chi Chi Kung 18 forms". It is certainly not "Tai Chi Chi Kung 18 forms" as taught by Michael Tse, for example. Daniles' demostration of the Yang Style Short form is rather amateurish and the video production is poor.

The VHS copy I purchased (new) at Amazon has the viewing quality of a third or fourth generation dub, and a production quality not much better than that. Maybe it's due to the fact that I watch most of my media on DVD or S-VHS, and watch them both on a large rear-projection screen. Regardless, I found it difficult, even painful to watch something that looks worse than "America's Best Home Video" (or whatever they call it these days). Perhaps the master was made on a low-quality VHS camera. Or maybe "NRG Works", the production company, uses low quality VHS decks to burn duplicates. Whatever the reason, I recommend passing on this and looking for something that's easier on the eyes. Exactly what, I have yet to determine (c:

5.0 out of 5 stars The best tape for the tai chi beginner, March 13, 2000

There are not many tapes on the market that can be followed as easy as this one. From the extensive warm-up to the lecture on feeling the Chi, I was able to do everything in my first try. This, more westernized approach to the art of Tai Chi Chi Kung should be perfect for everyone. I just loved it!
