Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Tai chi uses gentle, natural movements that restore you physically and mentally. Tai Chi for Health presents a superb instructor, Jason Chan, who is so graceful and fluid that you won't believe he has bones and joints like the rest of us. The scene is lovely and pastoral: green grass, rushing creek, misty weather. Chan demonstrates the Short Form from a front view (Chan is facing you), then again from a rear view (facing away from you), so you can choose which way helps you follow best. Insets show close-ups of a hand or foot detail. Chan goes through the form at a slow but continuous pace, not stopping to teach the moves in isolation. Detailed instructions focus on mental cues as well as physical alignment. This 55-minute video also includes breathing exercises, a "balance walk," and five elemental movements that allow you to control your chi energy. At the end, he leads a class outdoors, with testimonials from participants. This is a beautifully produced video--calming and centering. If you already do tai chi or would like to, this video should be in your collection. --Joan Price

5.0 out of 5 stars Body,Mind and Soul, January 13, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having absolutely no knowledge of Tai Chi, one video basically looked like another to me. I decided to take a chance so I purchased it. This is a definite choice for anyone wanting to get started learning the basics. After one viewing of this video I found it not only to be inspirational but absolutely calming. I wish I had found Tai Chi years ago. This video is easy to follow and does not require any skill upfront. The scenery is the perfect background to inspire you. In my opinion this is an all around two-thumbs up for beginners.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners., April 30, 1999
By A Customer
Jason Chan teaches some very simple tai chi movements which are great for beginners, but more experienced players will be disappointed. This is not the Yang short form nor even the simplified 24 movement form. It is Jason's own short sequence of some simple moves and some chi kung movements as well as warm ups and cool downs.

4.0 out of 5 stars well done educational video - no experience required, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
I had no prior knowledge of tai chi before watching this video. It is motivating and educational. Now I am hooked. There is so much information that you could watch it a hundred times. Jason Chan does a great job of instruction. However, much need to rewind/play/rewind. Strongly suggest buying DVD version if available when you read this review. Currently only VHS available.
