Tailey Whaley A Winner!, December 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Tailey Whaley: A Tale of a Whale With a Whale of a Tail (Hardcover)
Once in a while, a children's book comes along that entertains, delights the eye, AND gently nurtures the soul. Such is the case with Tailey Whaley. In this 33-page illustrated storybook, a whale is born with a special trait -- a tale that is so unsually formed that he can FLY! Of course, as in the real world, the other little whales think Tailey is different, and proceed to poke fun at him. Whaley and his mom flee. When Tailey becomes an adult, he is placed in a position to save those very whales who taunted him. Tailey must make an important decision, and he does. The parting message is that every friend is different, and anyone who finds a true friend has found a treasure. Thus "treasure" of a storybook is highly recommended for beginner readers, as well as a book to read to the toddler set. Author Charles Boyle has created a magical and sensitive story in Tailey Whalie, one that can be enjoyed over and over again. --Karen Plunkett-Powell, author, The Nancy Drew Scrapbook

A Gem of a Chilren's Book, August 4, 2011
This review is from: Tailey Whaley: A Tale of a Whale With a Whale of a Tail (Hardcover)
Tailey Whaley, A Tale of a Whale with A Whale of a Tail...just the name alone is so much fun to say, isn't it? Charles Boyle has written another children's book with a powerful message. This book revolves around the themes of bullying and friendship. The inscription in the book, written for my class of third graders, from the author reads, "Remember to be kind to those who are `different.'"
My students absolutely loved Tailey Whaley. The story along with its beautiful illustrations captured their attention. The book also brought about wonderful class discussion revolving around the themes. Children need to learn about their strengths and have the skills/tools to be able to "deal with" people who choose to bully. We can't always "fix" the bully, but we can choose strategies that help us deal with those negative situations.
Tailey was a learner who grew up smart, strong, and brave. When he got into a situation in which he didn't know what to do, he stopped, thought, got some ideas, and then made a plan. In the end, he saved those who had previously taunted him. The whales learned that "every friend is different" and that "anyone who finds a true friend has found a treasure."
Tailey Whaley is a true treasure of a book. It is one that every child would benefit from and should have in their collection. As a 36-year-veteran teacher of elementary students, I can find the "gems" in children's literature. This is definitely one of them.

Wonderful book for a wonderful child!, December 17, 2009
This review is from: Tailey Whaley: A Tale of a Whale With a Whale of a Tail (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for my daughter for her 6th birthday. Her name is Tailey, and it was the hit of the party! It is enjoyable to read, and has interesting photos. It is a sweet story which a father wrote for his daughter. We love it. Not a bad price for a book with her name on it either.
