4.0 out of 5 stars new & old; unusual & familiar; give it a try, July 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tailleferre/Poulenc/Snyder: Works For 2 Pianos (Audio CD)
It takes a while to get used to Tailleferre -- but once you do it's fun to listen to. In the Concerto Grosso, the singers sing sounds but not words. Try this for a while & you'll start hearing music differently. Orchestra, 2 pianos, saxaphone quartet, 8 singers -- sorry, no partridge in a pear tree. ..... If you want these two pianists to take you for a fast ride on the highway of French neo-classical music, hop on & turn it up. The drive of the two pianos will drive you wild. .... Then try & figure out the Snyder piece. All in a day's work. All in all: You'll be more than satisifed with this musical buffet. ****

4.0 out of 5 stars The Poulenc is dynamite !!, July 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tailleferre/Poulenc/Snyder: Works For 2 Pianos (Audio CD)
The Poulenc is the best known of these three pieces. It has been recorded by other duo piano teams. Clinton & Narboni play as though they are one. Their playing is almost seamless. The Poulenc is hard driving and fast paced. Very few could keep up this pace. They are dynamite and this piece is the highlight of the album. The Tailleferre is more of a tone sound piece. The singers sing notes -- not words. Listen to it a couple of times & then you'll really enjoy having it on. The Snyder piece takes some time to get used to. Overall, the Poulence makes it all worthwhile & the Taillefere is an added pleasure.
