4.0 out of 5 stars Samy y Sandra Sandoval, January 11, 2005
This review is from: Tailor of Panama (Audio CD)
To answer another reviewer's question, the group that was performing at the cafe near Gamboa is known as "Samy y Sandra". The two are bother and sister (last name Sandoval), and their group is one of the more popular performers of "tipico", the folk music of Panama. Panamanien tipico is based on a salsa rhythm and features accordian music, usually played by a swivel-hipped male, a great rhythm section of drums, and the lead singing can sometimes be delivered with a kind of pleasant yodeling effect. One of the unusual aspects of Panamanien tipico is that it is equally enjoyed by all generations, and it is not unusual to see them all dancing and having fun together in the audience. Travel in Panama and you will not be able to escape tipico, nor will you want to. It is accessible, contagious, seductive and thoroughly enjoyable. Try it!

As for the soundtrack, the music has a rather mysterious quality to it which nicely supported the movie. There are lietmotifs which thread throughout the tracks, so if you're looking for a CD with widely varied music, this may not be for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Davey blends hints of Kaempfert...delicious score!", June 20, 2001
This review is from: Tailor of Panama (Audio CD)
From John Le Carre's spy-thriller novel, director John Boorman gathers his cast...Pierce Brosnan (Andy Osnard, the British Spy), Geoffrey Rush (Harry Pendel, the Tailor), Jamie Lee Curtis (Louisa Pendel)...as each character sets the mood of intrigue, the game is afoot. Boorman chose Shaun Davey to do the score, past scoring duties "Waking Ned Devine" (1998) great film and score.

Davey's score is reminiscent of "A Man Could Get Killed", composed by the late Bert Kaempfert, later recorded by Frank Sinatra under a new title "Strangers In The Night", but the point is the underscoring, percussion, guitars and Latin rhythms that transcend...haunting is the only word to describe this score...every track keeps you spellbound.

Hats off to ~ The Irish Film Orchestra, Fiachra Trench (conductor), Nic Raine (orchestration), Varese Sarabande, Robert Townson (executive producer)...for serving up such a delicious soundtrack for the serious "film-score-buffs" to drool-over...looking forward to the next score from our young friend ~ SHAUN DAVEY!

Total Time: 48:46 on 16 Tracks ~ Varese Sarabande 302-066-243-2 ~ (2001)

5.0 out of 5 stars excelent - about the latin song, January 18, 2006
This review is from: Tailor of Panama (Audio CD)
The Latin music in the movie is from the group "Samy y Sandra" and is titled "Gallina Fina". You won`t find this song in the CD, but other than that this soundtrack is excellent.
