Essential Manual For Tailoring,
By
This review is from: Tailoring (Singer Sewing Reference Library) (Paperback)
Photographs and photographic instructions are fantastic as well as thorough. What makes this book different from most that I have seen on the market, is the photographic instructions for every phase of development of the suit jacket. Most tailoring books just have drawings that can be quite confusing, and keep you guessing. Many people who attempt to make a well tailored jacket, ending up giving up on their projects soon after they begin due to becoming frustrated and overwhelmed. There are not many books on the market about tailoring anymore; and most books are not totally dedicated to tailoring as this books is. Those that are published for the purpose of instructing tailoring techniques, do not have the colorful photographic step by step instructions for every phase of development of the tailored jacket that this book has. You may see some photographs for some phases of developing the suit jacket but not all of it. So if you are someone who is interested in developing your sewing skills professionally, you should definately buy this book! If you are studying fashion design, you should buy this book!

This is a must have for anyone who sews. I am a senior Apparel student, and this book was recommended for a tailoring class, but the things I learned in here are very benificial to all sewing.

Tailoring by Singer is a great reference for those who wish to learn about tailoring. It's old enough that it contains information about hand and machine sewing interfacing when many of the new books just show using fusible interfacing. The book has very clear pictures that are easy to follow. I would not use their method of sewing welt pockets. Refer to Palmer and Pletsch (book and DVD) for a "foolproof" method which you could also use for bound buttonholes. The book doesn't show how to "bag" a lining which is an easy way to attach a lining if your jacket does not have a vent. Again, "Jackets for Real People" (DVD and book) clearly outlines the bagging technique. Despite these drawbacks, I am a satisfied customer and would recommend purchasing.

I'm very excited about this book. It arrived in wonderful condition and in a timely manner. There is alot of information and beautiful photographs. It is too advanced for me, I'm a beginner, but I was told if I ever see the book, to buy it, so I did. I look forward to learning from it.
