Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Entertaining as well as educational, this CD-ROM lets students simulate a run for the United States presidency in a mock US presidential campaign.

Users move around the country in a campaign bus visiting states gaining or losing electoral votes. En route, they give speeches on issues of their choice, respond to outrageous and sometimes silly news stories about their past, deal with unpredictable weather conditions, budget advertising dollars, and schedule visits to key states.

At the end of each day, they may play a quiz game about past presidential elections to increase their poll numbers.

Students’ skills are tested in math, reading comprehension, critical thinking, geography, and map reading. It expands knowledge of the US electoral process and provides opportunities to learn about public issues.

For grades 6 through 12.

Features:

  • Object: the object of the game is to become the next US President by winning electoral votes through scheduling time and spending money wisely.
  • Campaign Travel: Each student will move around the country in a campaign bus for a period of time visiting various states gaining or losing electoral votes. Students learn to focus on key states that will help them win an election. They also learn to calculate where each state is located so they can plan their visits efficiently.
  • Taking a Stand: When students are asked to give a speech, they will also be asked to decide where they stand on a particular issue. At the end of a visit, what stand they chose will affect their popularity with the voters in that state.
  • Buying Advertising: Students learn that advertising can have a big impact on undecided voters. They learn to buy advertising in key states.
  • Stumping: confronted with newspaper or television stories about events in their past and present life (some sillier than others), students must decide how to respond to the media coverage.
  • Financing the Campaign: A presidential campaign is expensive. Students learn about some of the expenses involved as they manage their money.
  • A Little History: students are given the opportunity to increase their poll numbers by correctly answering questions (some just for fun and some for learning) about past presidential elections.
  • Tallying The Votes: Back on the bus, each student can check the map and charts to see if they have gained or lost popularity in the states they visited and states where they bought advertising. They learn to note states where their popularity is slipping because their opponent is paying attention to that state, and they are not. The winning student is the one who has amassed the most electoral votes in the allotted game time.
