5.0 out of 5 stars TAITO ROCKS!!!!
I find it VERY HARD to believe that games from this company are rated so low!! The problem lies, NOT with the company, but with the sucky, HIGHLY inexperienced gamers. People who rated this game either don't know or don't care that Taito gaves us such gems as Jackal, the HIGHLY addictive shooter, Operation Wolf, & my personal favorite, Skyshark!!! GET THIS, YOU WON'T...

3.0 out of 5 stars A very mixed bag..
Wow, some of the games on this CD are REALLY old 8 bit games. They are fun for about 20-30 seconds, then your eyes start hurting and you need to stop playing. Fortunately, there are other games on this CD that are worth your time; alot of side-scrolling, SuperMario-like games.

These games work pretty well with a logitech dual action joystick, but to get the most fun out of the games you need an x-arcade which is a joystick that emulates a keyboard. Sure it costs a considerable amount of $$, but the experience is like in the arcade!! You want a dual joystick for two player games. Four player games seem to only work for two player and they should have supported 4 player when the game was that way in the original. (i.e. one dual joystick x-arcade and two Logitech joysticks or two x-arcades) I have not used a light gun to check out the operation wolf game and do not know if one will work, but I would not be surprised if it did because Nicola Salmora worked on the emulation team! This game collection has a universal setting for the controls for all the games unlike Taito Legends. I highly recommend this game collection to retrogamers as well as the Taito Legends Collection, but do it right and buy a keyboard emulated joystick x-arcade or another brand that emulates the keyboard. You can get one off ebay, but if you buy a new one it is guaranteed for life!! You can get adapters for the x-arcade to work on a ps2, xbox, xbox360, etc. [...] Consider the tank stick or the track ball for other game collections like Midway arcade classics I, II, etc. to play Marble Madness or centipede, but note the dimensions/size and decide if you can store it when not in use.

These are fairly accurate reproductions of the origin games that a lot of us grew up with. As fun and exciting as they were then, they had interfaces for each game that was designed for the game (joysticks, buttons, etc). All of these use keyboard controls that make the experience much less fun and sometimes frustrating, some next to impossible. It would have been about 99% better if they would have allowed use of your mouse. I view this one as a waste of money. (Guess I should have tried the one for the PS2 instead)

3.0 out of 5 stars Legends 2 Reviewed, October 27, 2007

I would like to start by saying that this review is for the PC version of Legends 2 only. I play it on my PC using Microsoft XP and it works great. I have not played it on any other gaming platform.

I want to start by saying that the graphics are great. The producers of Legends 2 did a fine job putting this software package together. Playing these games is like a stroll down memory lane. Everything about this software package and the games it contains is wonderful. Wonderful except for one small but important detail.

The game controls are poor. Many of these games were designed to be played using a joystick, turn-knob, and/or various button controls. To accomodate a modern PC, the keyboard commands have replaced the joystick and other arcade controls. Instead of pressing the joystick left to move your character left like in the original arcade game, you now have to press the left arrow key on your PC's keyboard. You may think that this little discrepancy is no big deal, but I assure you it is. Having to use the keyboard greatly hampers play. In addition, not only do you have to use the keyboard to move your character, but also to fire, jump, kneel, ect. Trying to press all these buttons at the same time makes good game play nearly impossible. Without good game play, what's the point in playing?

I purchased Taito Legends 2 just to play my old favorite game, Front Line. It was and still is one of my favorite games from my youth. To control my character, I have to use the arrow keys on my PC's keyboard to move and the mouse to aim my gun and fire. In short, I have to use both hands at the same time to allow my character to function properly. This, of course, makes playing the game impossible. I quickly came to the realization that my dream of playing one of my favorite games on my PC was not to be. I'm sure that 99.999% of the rest of the game playing population will have the same problem and reach the same conclusion.

Although some of the games, like Space Invaders, work fine with the keyboard controls, most of the rest of the games are severly hampered by the keyboard controls. These games were originally fast-action arcade games. They do not lend themselves well to a keyboard and mouse. I believe that the creaters of this software package could have done a much better job of accomodating the PC user.

Because of the character control issues I've mentioned, I cannot recommend Legends 2 for the PC. It just doesn't work well with this platform. But, if you just want to play a game like Space Invaders, the PC version should work just fine for you. If nothing more, Legends 2 is still a great stroll down memory lane. It is a lot of fun just loading up the individual games and watching the demos play. I never realized until I bought this software how much I missed the games of the good-old-days.
