5.0 out of 5 stars A Reception in Taiwan, June 18, 2011
President Jimmy Carter had just made the historic announcement that the United States would recognize the communist government as the legitimate government of China and would dramatically change the reltationship with the government in exile in Taiwan. It was unfortunate for the author and his wife who had made arrangements for a trip to Taiwan with a native son. The social climate in Taiwan had changed toward Americans. Against the advice of the State Department the couple made the trip and the author writes about their experiences in the context of their relationship with their friend, "Hong Kong Harry." The mood of Taiwan and the historic implications are given, but the importance of this work is the description of Taiwan and the people at this time in history. Taiwan Journal, Ten Historic Days is a pleasant historic and geographical journey worth reading.
