Enter Taja Sevelle, Unique For The Time of 1987,
By IJustDiedAlive (Northern CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Taja Sevelle (Audio CD)
Taja Sevelle's debut album was very unique at the time of it's release back in 1987. Taja was not a teen idol or a pop queen but she did her share to bring some very good music to the scene. In a time of Madonna, Janet J., Tiffany, & Debbie, Taja stood very much apart from those performers. Some say she was just a puppet of Prince but that is just far from true. Taja was 25 years old at the time of her debut album.
Love Is Contagious- The lead off single garnered Taja some attention especially overseas. The music and vocal production were very original and fresh. Taja's voice could be described as a cross between Sade and Deniece Williams. 10/10 Wouldn't You Love To Love Me- The Prince penned song that escaped Madonna and landed at Taja's door. Very funky cool song that is very much of Prince's style. 10/10 Popular- A song about girls who look for attention in the wrong way. Very good production. Excellent chorus. 10/10 How Could You Do Me So Bad- Beautiful ballad that shows what Taja can do best. I think Mariah must have been influenced a little by the production of this song. 10/10 Take Me For A Ride- Sounds similar to the style of Madhouse music and we all know why. This is another Prince-ish sounding upbeat tune penned by Taja. 10/10 If I Could Get Your Attention- This song has a strong drum beat through it and it sounds so cool. This album just gets better and better as time goes by. This song could have been released today and stood against some of todays music. 10/10 Infatuation- This song is one of those Rock'N'Soul songs. Taja sounds great with r&b and pop-rock grooves. She can hang.10/10 Baby's Got A Lover- Simply Sweet. A lullaby about first love. One of Taja's best songs ever. 10/10 Mama 16- An Ode to the teenage mothers of America. Rock'N'Soul works very well here as well. 10/10 Fly For Your Painted Rainbow- An influential ballad meant to tell you not to waist your time while your here. Do what makes you happy and just keep on and keep on trying to fly for it. An Absolutely Beautiful Song. 10/10 Yeah I gave each song a 10 and they honestly all deserved it. Taja Sevelle's debut album does in deed have Prince's elements in it but it's not too over powering it's just right. If you are able to find this cd I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Be sure to check out Taja's other cd's entitled FOUNTAINS FREE, TOYS OF VANITY, and the cd ep GOOD TIMES.

Marvelous Album From The Great Taja Sevelle,
By MizKyGirl (Waukegan, IL, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Taja Sevelle (Audio CD)
Taja Sevelle was an excellent singer, but she didn't get enough publicity with this album. Nonetheless, I love this album and Taja's a great singer. Here's my review.
1.) Love is Contagious: Taja's well-known hit song to date. A nice soothing ballad along with Taja's soulful singing voice. 2.) Wouldn't You Love To Love Me: A cool, upbeat song that's very catchy and fun to sing along to. 3.) Popular: Great funky song with great music, great chorus, and Taja's great voice. 4.) How Could You Do Me So Bad: A beautiful ballad that starts out slow with the lovely piano music and then switches to sort of an R&B slow jam. I luv this song! 5.) Take Me For A Ride: Another cool funky song to dance along to along with a catchy chorus. 6.) If I Could Get Your Attention: Cool, infectious funky song with a catchy melody and chorus. 7.) Infatuation: Great upbeat song with a mixture of pop, soul, and rock 'n' roll. 8.) Baby's Got A Lover: Another sweet ballad that's soothing and relaxing to listen to. 9.) Mama 16: Funky, upbeat song which could be considered an anthem for young teenage mothers. 10.) Fly For Your Painted Rainbow: Beautiful ballad to end the album off on a good note. I give this album 5 stars, but if I could, I'd give it 10 or 100 stars!

This cd is so good I only recently bought it on cd after having the cassette for nearly 20 years. Taja Sevelle's first album is still one of my favorites of all time thanks to Prince of course.
