2.0 out of 5 stars A great, crisp line encased in a poorly designed case
The first time I struck a line with a friend's Tajima, I knew I must have one immediately. That was my first mistake.

About a week in, the line lock snapped off...followed by the crank a few weeks later. (I do not abuse my tools either) I returned it for a new one and not long after, the same thing happened. What a shame, I really liked the crisp, thin...

definitely better design that others so far, nicer line and better case. Loses a little chalk when stringing out but still worth it. Works fine on OSB depite other opinions, they probably hadn't broke the line in yet with chalk, once saturated it works excellent.

2.0 out of 5 stars A great, crisp line encased in a poorly designed case, March 14, 2010

The first time I struck a line with a friend's Tajima, I knew I must have one immediately. That was my first mistake.

About a week in, the line lock snapped off...followed by the crank a few weeks later. (I do not abuse my tools either) I returned it for a new one and not long after, the same thing happened. What a shame, I really liked the crisp, thin line that it made. Takes a little getting used to when trying to pull it tight...it seems to just stretch forever! Not a bad thing, just different. I ended up tossing the case and putting the line in my Irwin box. I even used the felt from the Tajima. Now I have a good line, albeit a hybrid of sorts.

It's pretty pricey too...must be made in a union shop by guys who are WAY overpaid. You union reviewers here know what I'm talking about.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't find anything better., March 11, 2011

I have been framing for 12 years and I haven't found a better chalkline. The ONLY downfall of this product is I only get about 3 lines per pull. But I just can't give up the super strong line, quick reel, crank lock, comfortable feel.

THIS CHALK LINE IS AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED...POPS A GOOD, CLEAN LINE AND IS VERY FLEXIBLE AS FAR AS PULLING HARD TO GET A TRUE MARK..GOOD LOCKING MECHANISM TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL PULLING OF THE LINE.....TRULY WORTH THE MONEY.....................FITZHUGH LEE

3.0 out of 5 stars Save your money!!, January 18, 2008

I am a union framer in the Chicago area. I bought this thinking that for $26 dollars, maybe someone has FINALLY made a decent chalk box. Wrong! Although it's not a bad product, it surely is no better than the $10 dollar boxes out there.

The good, 1)Looks cool... before the fancy paint job started flacking off in a couple months 2)The fill cap seals very tight with minimal chalk loss when you run the line out 3)The line lock works well, but who really uses that?

The bad, 1)The line has broke NUMEROUS times (I have not exposed this line to wet conditions either) 2)The line also reels in no smoother or quicker that any other 3 to 1 gear ratio box out there 3)The hook, while nice, always seems to cover my pencil marks when I go to snap lines due to its larger than average size (this is more of an annoyance than you might think)! 4)WAY to much flex in the line for my taste 5)String only holds enough chalk for 3-4 snaps before you have to wind it back up

Bottom line is although its not a bad chalk line, it's $26 dollars and not any better than a $10 box. I'm all for spending more money on tools that truly are "the best", but this isn't one of them!

I bought this as a supposed improvement over my old stanley chalk line. It is absolutely useless for OSB or rough plywood. Where it might be useful is pristine melamine type products. Not for the typical contractor.

I'm also a union framer out of Cleveland I think think this chalk box is great,I've found that the tajima brand chalk does stay on the line much longer than the more course name brands you may find in home centers and hardware stores. My only regret in buying it is that unfoutunatly it is made in China.
By the way Travis you may want to check your grammer and spelling before you call someone a retard.Of course scabs don't have to be educated to run work.
