$30 for a chalkline?? Yep. That is a lot of money for an item you can buy for under $5, but if you are a pro (I am), it is really worth it. It really works well. It has a gearbox to speed the rewinding which is very smooth. I have bought others that work well UNTIL YOU PUT CHALK INTO THE BOX!! Then the gears jam up.As a side note, the string in the box is really good- more like fishing line. You can improve any chalkbox by installing #20-30 braided fishing line. It doesn't get twisted and lays a much finer line.

The rewind, hook, lock, and clean chalk line are all very good. The down side is do not expect to make more than one line w/o rewinding. This does not hurt when chalking walls and first row of plywood. A cheaper chalk line is still needed for roofing, chalking centers, etc where line is snapped multi times.

This is not he chalk line for the everyday user. The line is really too fine. It comes very handy in a detailed place, but it usually doesn't cary enough calk. (I used the Tajima chalk by the way.) It is only good for one good snap. I find it works well on drywall and say were you have to rip a small amount off wood. It has its place but do not get it as your main chalk box.
