I am delighted to report that it is just as accurate.

In my opinion the Fatmax has the best quality of any tape I've purchased from a box store but I was never a fan bc of the reasons I've mentioned.

The white background is also very useful and easy to read.

This tape measure is very good and the price is great! It is light enough to not weigh you down, but has enough weight to have a solid durable feel. The rubber coating is great for preventing dings on wood and flooring. This tape measure is very compact in size and is great if you are looking for a smaller sized tape measure. The white background is also very useful and easy to read. Some of the Stanley yellow tape measures can be hard to read depending on the lighting.

The ruler makes a difference. This one is accurate, rugged, and feels just right.

-- marks down to 1/32nd in the first foot of the tape
-- rubberized case makes it virtually impossible to damage when dropped
-- good resistance/action on the lock.

Highly recommended.

Again, these tapes are great. I've left my review for the 30 footer, but it's the same for these 16 footers. I've purchased many over the last few years since I discovered them. I prefer this name over the stanley tapes (yes I mean the fat max ones. WAY to big in my hands and not so comfortable to hold) They hold up nicely, and I'd probably would still have my first one if someone else didn't like it so much as well. Like my other review, I've purchased several, some were gifts, some have simply disappeared.
Again, great job to the people at Tajima.

Every time I've gone to the hardware store to buy a tape measure I've taken along my calipers to test what I can find on the shelf. It is RARE indeed that any of the common tapes, i.e., Stanley and others, give accurate readings. And when they do they are accurate only in one direction - either inside or outside. It seems the movement of the tip is not equal to the tip's thickness so it's not possible for it to be accurate for both inside and outside measurements. This Tajima tape measure is the first I have ever held in my hand that is accurate both ways. I didn't think I'd ever find this. The surprise is that I got it in the mail without being able to test it before purchasing. Maybe I just got lucky. This tool is staying with me.

I just received my 6' version of this tape measure. I am delighted to report that it is just as accurate. Now I have a little tape to carry everywhere.

I'm a general contractor in Pittsburgh and I purchased this tape along with the corresponding 30' tape. I typically used Stanley Fatmax 25' and 16' tapes prior to this purchase. I love using this tape compared to the Fatmax. In my opinion the Fatmax is too bulky and the blade lock was always difficult to depress (one handed) especially when measuring trim to cut while placed on a miter saw. In my opinion the Fatmax has the best quality of any tape I've purchased from a box store but I was never a fan bc of the reasons I've mentioned. Nevertheless I started reading reviews and found this to have the best reviews for the price. So about to months ago I bought this immediately prior to installing a custom tile steam shower. I knew I was gonna be rough on this tape but I figured I'd give it a shot due to the price. After having installed the tile for the steam shower plus roughly 250 sq ft of travertine floors my tape was beat up and caked with thinset. I spent about 10 minutes with a damp sponge and Lenox gold utility knife (great knife) and I got all the thinset off the blade of the tape. It worked as good as the day it came in the mail. As mentioned in other reviews the contrasting white background and black numbers is great. The blade also retracts with a lot of force so buyer beware. I've caught my finger a few times. Also the belt clip is a little loose at this point but I have no problem accepting these faults because I think this is an awesome tape. I also like the fact these aren't sold in the box stores bc it's much harder for someone to mistake this as theirs. In closing I think I'm gonna stock up on a few of these bc if these tapes are like most things good the company will go and lower the quality and reviews will consist of reminiscing about the prior model.

I like the black markings on white tape. Why do others think yellow is more visible? Maybe for outdoors in the sunlight? The tape return spring is a bit aggressive, so you need to watch your fingers and hang on for the recoil. The tape is a bit wider and therefore bulkier than I would like, but I understand that gives it a longer unsupported reach. That's probably handy for carpenters, but I'm a furniture-maker so I could get by with a 3/4 inch tape. I have a hi-viz Stanley that I like a lot, which I could only find at Lowes, less than half the price of this one, but maybe not quite as nice. One thing about this Tajima that's a bit of a mixed blessing: they have protected the tip of the blade by building up the case along side of it, but this makes it impossible to hook the tape and extend it with one hand. You have to pull the tape out part way with your other hand, then hook the end. Overall it's a very nice tape measure. For me, as I get older and my eyesight gets worse, the white easily read tape is a major advantage over most other tapes.
