I am a pro trim carpenter who has to use the tape measure constantly. I got this tape as it was recommended by another to be more accurate when pushing against a object to measure, then hooking on to the end of the board to cut. For that it is great. It also fits my hand nice. Also the white is a relief to my eyes after 10 years of reading yellow tapes and level bubbles. It is a bit filmsy though and has already after just a couple weeks of use on the job developed several kinks that are sure to develop into a break. My fatmax tape took more than 6 or more months to develop these same kinks. Also like someone else mentioned, it is a little harder to hook on to the end of the wall or board and have it stay hooked when pulling tight. I attribute that to the filmsiness of the tape which allow the hook to roll up and away. I haven't had any problems with the lock, and like that the hook is protected from falls as it has taken alot of drops. Also the belt hook loses its tightness, and I have already taken it off and pinched it tight. First tape I had do that in 10 years. If the price was a lowered, it might rate more stars because of the white background, size and accuracy. Also no problems with shipping.

This is my new favorite tape measure, and I own 16-foots from Starrett, Klein, Luftkin, and Snap-On. First, let me take a stand for the 16' by 1" in general. I design furniture, and I also run a furniture showroom. I handle tape measures a lot; there's one in my hand many hours each day. So I like one that feels particularly good in the hand, and is fun to flip around and catch. And I also like to have one that doesn't look like everyone else's. That makes it easy to tell which one is mine, and other people are less likely to pick it up by default, knowing I might need it. That said, most of my measuring is done indoors. I noticed the other reviewer is a contractor. For that line of work, I think a larger tape is called for, and my recc is just for the 16x1. One more note. I will not buy a tape with a 3/4" blade (the Starrett has one, an older purchase). The blade twists; the heft is all wrong; it's hard to read. A 1" blade on a 16' tape.. Try it and see. It's the way to go. Now about this one by Tajima (who I'd never heard of before last week) - the styling didn't exactly appeal to me at first. A little too Johnny Sokko for my taste with the chrome and the ultra shiny plastic. But then you pick this thing up & shift it about in your hand, and you can tell that the shape has been driven from ergonomics first, and then designed around that. But not only does it feel great when it's in the right position for use, but your hand can always tell when it is NOT in the correct position to be extended. This is really what separates it from the pack. Pick it up any which way, and your fingers naturally begin rotating it into position to be fired. The Klein 908-16 and the Snap-On Professional are both nearly round. So they aren't as natural feeling that way.Read more ›

This is one of the best tape measures I have used. The measurements are easy to see with the white background. The tape moves in and on with ease and the locking mechanism holds the tape in place when needed.

I sought out and bought this tape measure based on several glowing internet reviews for readability and low blade curvature.

The Tajima is a solid tape measure despite the cherry and chrome bling look. Its tape is easily read and locks well... just like all of its competitors. The price is good.

My gripe is that nowhere that I've found is there any indication of what the inside offset measurement should be. Its curved shape makes using it for inside measurements untrustworthy in my mind.

In short, an OK tape measure but not one I'd go out of my way to find and buy again.

Two stars because the casing looks sturdy and has a nice grip. Like some have previously mentioned: it's ok but not the best. Developed some kinks, one kink turned into a small tear and then it finally broke at the 4 in. mark. It was my brother's, he only had it for a few months. I felt awful so I came on Amazon to replace it for him. I guess I'm not surprised that it is rated 3 stars. I think I'll buy him one that has a higher rating.

What a difference a good quality tape measure makes to your woodworking projects. The lettering is very easy to read. The locking and return actions are smooth. The overall aesthetics and ergonomics all combine to make this my favorite measuring tape.

Great for exacting trim/tile work or if you're going to be careful with it. Not up to the rigors of jobsite abuse. Fell off eight foot stepladder, no longer retracts. I will buy another, but be more careful with it.
